Derogatory Mark, GW Letter?

Hey all,

I apologize if my question is one that is constantly asked and I am wasting everyone’s time but I am new to the forum and snooped around a bit and figured it wouldn’t hurt to ask. Long story short I got a credit card in college without understanding the implications that bad habits with them could have. It was from CitiBank and after I racked up a hefty amount on it I just stopped paying it and figured I would deal with it when I graduated and had a fulltime job. Well to no ones surprise it was charged off and turned into a derogatory mark on my credit history. Since then I have graduated and started working and paid it in full. Is there any possible way outside waiting the 7 years for it to fall off my credit history to get this mark ammended? Would a goodwill letter to CitiBank have any chance to work or do GW letters only work for late payments?

Re: Derogatory Mark, GW Letter?

Give it a shot, using the following logic....

Reporting of a charge-off to a CRA is the placing in the consumer's credit file of a determination that they are not going to pay the debt.

In my situation, payment of the debt was made once I had overcome my temporary economic setback, and indicates that I do take responsibility to pay my debts.

Removal of the reported charge-off would thus more accurately reflect upon me as a consumer who does pay their debt when able, rathe than one who stiffs the creditor.
