Disputing 60 day lates on student loans

Hi all,

Been a big reader of these forums and have recently joined and started rebuilding my credit.

So, I checked my credit report last month and noticed my student loans (3 separate accounts with Federal Loan Servicing) showed 60 days late on Jan. 2014.  I found this information to be incorrect, due to my loans were supposed to be in forbearance during that period.  I filed a dispute online with the 3 CRA's and found my credit score to jump about 50 points and the investigation is still on going.  Is this normal to see such a jump in score by filing a dispute which has not been completed as of yet?  I'm curious as I've never done this before....Any information will be helpful..

Beginning scores as of November 2013- all 3 scores hovering around 580

Current scores- low being 673, highest at 703..I'm getting there.  I really need this incorrect information to be dropped completely from my credit report.

Again any helpful info is much appreciated!

Re: Disputing 60 day lates on student loans

It happened to me, because they sent my bills to an old email account that was used by me and my ex, so I never got the first installment notice.

I called for 9 months and got an advocate at the lenders office. They did a deferment and got me a new start date and then, after seeing scheduled payments she made a plea to the CR department at the Lender where she works and Holds my student loan. This was a daily and weekly battle of begging and requesting managers to listen to my sob story! Frustrating, but it worked! Worth the effort!

Definitely makes me feel better...what tactic or point did you attack from to eventually get the baddies removed from your CR?

I called Federal Loan Servicing and they insisted the information was accurate and refused to remove the negative marks..  Smiley Sad

Mine went for months and I had even called the college and Fed Ed Loan dept. They told me, don't worry they will contact you. I had a damn good excuse, but they were not budging. Again it took at least 9 mo.

I know others who have claimed hardship reasons. You must get to their heart as a human and make it understandable that the situation is/was out of your control. Keep asking for an advocate or supervisor. Don't stop!

Re: Disputing 60 day lates on student loans

Thank you! I've sent a couple GW letters with no response..

Like I said, I have an open dispute with all 3 CRA's stating the 60 day late which was reported, is in fact incorrect..I guess I'll wait to see the results of the investigation through EQ, TU and EX...I'll keep on it.  These 3 incorrect reportings are hurting my score so much!

Re: Disputing 60 day lates on student loans

So you had to contact the lender first hand (in my case Federal Loan Servicing)?  I've done this to no avail.  They state that all information is correct and they can not and will not contact CRA's to have the lates removed...I feel hopeless
