So I paid off a collection a while ago and it has been removed from my TransUnion and my Experian. EQ is reporting it as a closed/paid as agreed account (not a collection) and its reporting late payment. How can I remove this from my report?
Each of the bureaus is different, in that one will not delete simply because another one did. So, it actually isn't a deleted account as far as Equifax is concerned. As long as it is reporting paid and closed, it is accurate. Depending on the age of the account, you could try asking for early exclusion, but there have been mixed results doing that.
You also can try sending a goodwill letter to the creditor who reported that entry, and ask them if they would be willing to remove the entry since it's paid off now. Again, your mileage will vary. Some creditors will and some will not.
One more thought--how old is the most recent late payment it is showing? Once the late payment reaches that 7 year old mark, it will come off anyway, and if the account still shows at that point, it will show as only a positive account with paid as agreed and no lates showing.
Who was the CA?
Hi DoctorCat, EQ was always the most difficult for me during my rebuilding. My file is totally clean except for one 6.5 year old charge-off totaling $429.00 that I paid thinking it would be purged . . . I stopped calling EQ and the original creditor BOA is just as challenging to deal with as EQ. I learned my lesson in co-signing as the item was already in CO status when I found out about it . . . but it will purge in December 2022 and my file will be totally clean for all CRAs. Best wishes in getting your item removed.
