I don't know how I did it, but I logged into Experian this morning and Fingerhut/Webbank for $635.00 was removed from my credit report and my score increased by 41 points! I have been fighting this one for months. Started a dispute because the information they were reporting was inaccurate, charge off date incorrect, etc. Came back verified. Tried several different avenues, including contacting them and got nowhere. I paid off the collection agency LVNV and they deleted their tradeline but Fingerhut (as oh so many of you all on these boards are aware) would not budge.
Finally I decided to try the CFPB. Across all three credit bureaus over a three year history only 2 months matched across all three. Given I had disputed and requested Fingerhut to update my credit reports with accurate information if they wouldn't delete it entirely, I figured I might have a chance. Unfortunately, I hit a roadblock there as they denied jurisdiction of the request and directed me to the FDIC. I had already gone this far so I figured I would give it a shot, submitted all my documentation and complaint on September 3rd and today it was gone from Experian. Praying it will stay gone and that Equifax and Transunion will follow suit.
Congrats!
Congratulations! I had a similar experience with Fingerhut/Webbank, but was unsuccessful at getting it removed.
Way to go.
Just wanted to provide a quick update, as I know a lot of people have had difficulties with Fingerhut/Webbank. If you want to put in the time and effort to do what I did, it resulted in the successful removal of Fingerhut from all 3 credit bureaus. I went line-by-line and compared the information reported to every bureau and made note of every discrepancy. I received a letter from Fingerhut about two weeks ago stating that they would be requesting their tradeline be deleted from all three credit bureaus. They placed the blame on Experian claiming that Experian had messed up something in their system and could't correct it, so Fingerhut could not accurately report the tradeline info so they had made the decision to delete it from all bureaus.
Of note, Fingerhut did say they would be contacting Resurgent (mistakenly put LVNV in first post) to recall the debt. I paid in Resurgent in full and advised Fingerhut the balance had been paid in full. Just an FYI in case you haven't paid off the balance, Fingerhut will probably recall it and try to collect and report on it again.
I only filed with CFPB. Did you file a complaint with FDIC? can you help me with this removal? Transunion keeps coming back as verified while Experian and Equifax removed the account. The account was open fraudlently and they wont even honor my data breach document and identity theft affidavit.
Apologies for the delay as I didn't get a notification for this. I filed with FDIC. The CFPB doesn't oversee Fingerhut. File a complaint with FDIC with any proof you have of the fraudulent account opening. I've learned disputing with the bureaus is pretty much a useless but necessary step. They are always gonna come back as accurate if the creditor says it is.
After you made a complaint on FDIC what do you do next? Do you send a letter to the credit bureau with your FDIC complaint attached?

This has been going on with Fingerhut for eons. WAY back in the day when mailed paper catalogs were a thing FH sent one addressed to me at a house I'd sold a few years prior. I found out about the $28 collection when applying for a mortgage. Called Fingerhut and was told valid charge because the "catalog code" was used to order a box of chocolate candy that was delivered to my former address. Those people refused to budge so I paid it and bought strangers a box of candy. 🤨
No Fingerhut removed it about ten days after I filed the Complaint. The bureaus won't remove it because of the complaint. In my case Fingerhut decided not to fight and just removed it. I only had a $600 balance so I guess they assumed it wasn't worth continuing to fight.
