Adding my story here for anyone else following.
I had a First Progress card, opened 8 years ago to start my rebuild. Went well, got many more cards, scores up to 770s, never canceled the FP card though. Back in 2018, the annual fee for FP hit, I forgot, and got a late payment for it. I paid it, meant to send in a GW letter, but never did. Today I figured I'd call them up before sending a GW letter to see if I could save myself the trouble. Told the agent my story, he came back and said they can remove the late payment negative remark, but only if I close the account. So, I closed it, and crossing my fingers they keep their promise. I'll post an update when it happens.
