I am trying to get a mortgage and have an offer out, and have made good headway into repairing my credit score. But recently I came across emails that were going to a spam folder, from a company First Source Advantage. Apparently these emails first started in or near Oct 2023. They're saying they represent Velocity Investments, LLC, and that they're trying to collect a debt of about $600. This account is not currently showing on my credit report and I'd like it to remain that way. I also found emails from a group called Debtsy that apparently were trying to collect the same debt account before First source. I believe the original creditor charged off the account in March 2020. None of these instances are reflected on my credit report. What do I do? Does First Source negotiate pay for delete? But I don't need a pay for delete, I need it to not be reported in the first place. I'm worried that even if I offer to pay, they'll report it as settled. Which would bring down my credit score. And it's been years since the original account was charged off. And over a year since the earlier agency had it. How do I navigate this?
Contact the collection agency. Work out a payment plan that is as short of a time period that you can afford to pay. Request if they agree to the terms to put it in writing. Include no reporting if you keep up your end of the deal. Good luck!
