Hello All,
I've been unsuccessful thus far in locating old account numbers.
Just wondering if anyone has sent a successful GW letter with a partial account number?
I've read other posts indicating to retrieve this information from your annual CR , however, my annual CR only list partial account numbers as follows 55555555..... (example account number only).
YoOu can send a GW letter referencing partial acct #'s. You can say re account # 1234XXXX and in the body of your letter state the account number referenced above is taken directly from your credit report.
Thanks kjm79! I guess that'll have to do since I don't have the full account numbers.... Have you actually sucessfully accomplished this before using partial account numbers? Just don't want to decrease my chances of a GW if this is something that'll be disfavorable in the eyes of the OC![]()
Yes I believe partial account numbers might work. I contacted Capital One over the phone the other day hoping they would remove a 30 day late remark and I told them I did not have the full account number. I told them that all I had was the partial account number from my CRs and the day of when the late payment was being reported. The CSR told me that was fine. She took the partial number and date of the late payment.
I received a few days later a letter from them stating that they reviewed their records and I was indeed late on that month for that closed account. I'm still in the process of responding back in the hopes to have the late removed.
So I believe partial numbers may work unless it depends on the creditor.
