Getting ready to move to new state, wondering about deletion of previous addresses

I am working on clearing up my credit and starting with the TONS of medical collections I have via the HIPAA letters process (40+) I contracted MRSA two separate times within 2-3 years, was in the hospital for months and I am just not even sure where these/what these medical bills are from!  (Had insurance at the time)

I've opted out as the #1 step.

Secondly is to delete all past addresses/names within my file.

I'm planning on relocating out of state (hopefully!!!) in October.  Should I send those letters off NOW to delete the past addresses or should I wait until I am moved to do that and include my now-current one?

Thanks in advance!

as long as those addresses are associated with your creditors, they may continue to show up on your credit reports, whether you ask for them to be deleted now or not.  so it's not necessarily going to clear up your reports entirely.

Re: Getting ready to move to new state, wondering about deletion of previous addresses

I guess, then, I'm missing the point of having the addresses/names corrected to the current correct name/address BEFORE going through the HIPAA letter process?

If it doesn't matter when I do it because they may re-associate, what's the point of doing it at all, as the second step?  (Not meaning to sound sarcastic at all-- just trying to understand!!)

Thanks!

Warmly,

Brandi

I have had success in removing old addresses where there is no longer a creditor associated with that address on my reports.

That is the key, you cannot still have a creditor that reports using that address.  Whether you live there or not.

I am also purplexed at the whole address issue you raise.

Changing your address is NOT a major matching criterion that the creditors or CRAs use when matching future reporting to your credit file.

The CRAs, once receiving any reporting to your CR, look first at the most unique personal identifier provided.  That is, almost universally, your SSN.  If they get an SSN match, then current address wont even be a matching criterion.

If they dont have a totally unique personal identifier for matching, such as SSN, then they turn to matching of plural, other identifies, such as full name matched with current, or even prior address.

I just dont see the significance of when your current address is updated with the CRA, unless you simlutaneously notiffy each credtior, and the CRA must fall back to that as a way of matching future credit reporting.  That is not a major matching factor used the the CRAs when recording credit reporting into your credit file.
