Last night I was going through my credit reports and I noticed my CCT reports say I have 8 accounts with lates, the last one being 29 months ago. Still, I never get pre-approved for anything and my Disco card is still secured after more than a year. So I got to thinking and wondered if Good will letters would be a good idea. I will be working on my UTIL for awhile anyway so I might as well try. I did some research and found that I have 4 lenders I need to send letters to. I typed up all 4 last night and will be mailing them this weekend after one mroe proof read. This is my thread to track the progress. If you have any advice on any of these lenders, please feel free to post it.
Creditors:
Resource 1 Credit Union:
My ex's auto loan (Sept and Oct of 2014) that she let lapse after our divorce. She could not get it refinanced due to her credit. My divorce decree says I am not responsible but the bank was unyielding.
Letter mailed: 3-?-17
Santander:
My ex's auto loan from Feb, Mar, Apr of 2012.
Letter mailed: 3-?-17
Wells Fargo Home Mortgage:
My mortgage. Still in my wifes name and mine. Last 9 lates (Mar-Nov 2013) are falling off this year, one month at a time. Our track record for this loan was horrible. Immediately follwoing the divorce I got it current and it stayed that way, going on year 4 of on time payments.
Letter mailed: 3-?-17
ACS/Navient:
Student loan. 2 lates (Feb and Mar 2014) due to my IBR not being presented on time. There was 5 of these ACS/Navient accounts, one for each loan but when Navient took over, all but one dissappeared and got replaced with new Navient only reports showing no lates. Lates were my fault but will still try to have them removed.

You've got good scores. Unless there are some 90 day lates, after 2 years the lates factor less in your scores. Sometimes the preapprovals just don't show up. That doesn't mean that it isn't a good idea to see if you can GW lates. I have one with Santander going back to September 2010 that is on EQ and TU, but not EX. I thought about GWing them, but was afraid that they would come back and say that I have more than one on my report and that would mess up things for me. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.
So I got these ready to go and put them above the visor in my truck to mail. Guess what I did next? Not a thing. lol. Found them today all stamped and ready to go. I reprinted the letters to change the dates on them and actually mailed them this time. I hope to hear something within a couple of weeks.
Good luck! I have one 30-day late mark on my report from Santander. I still have the car loan through them. I've been meaning to tackle that one.
If this works I will send you what I sent them. Can't hurt to try.
So I got all of these mailed out. Then today I was looking through my full reports from annualcreditreport and realized I missed one from back in 2011. So, I typed up one for Nelnet and sent it to them too. So, add them to the list of GW requests.

So question, what kind of goodwill letter did you send to Wells Fargo? My ex stopped paying our mortgage when I moved out and the home went in to foreclosure. We got it out with a loan modification and have had 2 years of on time payments, but he can't refinance it out of my name yet (even though our decree gave him 10 months to refinance about 3 years ago). Did you just explain what happened? Sorry I'm so clueless with goodwill letter.
I highly recommend the Saturation Technique if you're looking for success with GW letters!

I would like to be able to say this is my first time with WF but this is my 4th one. The first two they were nice about and politely declined regardless of the reason. This last time (about a year ago I think?) they sent me a letter back asking that I not contact them about this issue again. My ex said I never listened. I think she was onto something. Anyway, I went through a loan mod too back in 2010 and the divorced 3 years later. I can't refi either until my credit is better and my UTIL is almost nonexistent. Basically I just email them and told them what a great company they are and how I am a happy customer and just want to make our relationship better, please adjust. They won't but it makes me giggle a little when I think of them opening the letter and saying "wth? I thought we told him not to write anymore?" Other than that, I am new to these GW letters. I'll post here my results and hopefully we will both learn from this experience. lol

Just read it. Thats a great idea and a great post. This round happened to be mailed Monday and I will look up more addresses and send them out tomorrow. It kinda throws off the cycle but I have only sent 5 so far. Thankfully, I only have 5 creditors to send too. Thanks for the post, you give me renewed hope that this might work.
