Goodwill at Discover?

Any success stories when it comes to GW from Discover? I have one 30 day late from a car accident that put me out of work for several months in 2006. I emailed [email protected] and was given a number to call and a person to speak to only to be told that they would not under any circumstances delete the trade line or negative payment information.

Chase bank was actually awesome about this whole process. My account was in worse condition with them during the same time. I emailed the Customer Service VP, got a call back the same day, and they removed the information immediately. I thought Discover was supposed to be the best of the best in terms of customer service... It certainly doesn't seem that way to me.

Has anyone had any luck with a different contact there?   I know it's scheduled to fall off next year, but I'm trying to buy a house this year

Re: Goodwill at Discover?

ive searched the web and these forums, and it seems no one has success with discover. Ive offered PFD which was accepted verbally, I paid, and waited for the fax in writing, never received. Filed BBB complaint, and FTC practice complaint. So we'll see how that goes, so far Ive had good luck there. My card was charged off from years ago, so I dont know your exact situation, but Ive had/found no luck with discover. YET Smiley Happy

In my wallet: Discover it 6800 CL, Capital One Quicksilver Sig 5k CL, Chase Freedom 4k CL, GCU Patinum Visa 1500 CL

Is this 30~day late the only negative item on your reports ?   30~day lates usually lose most of their FICO ding within a few years, so it's possible that it might not be hurting your score in a significant way.    Have you pulled a recent FICO score to know where you stand ?

Re: Goodwill at Discover?

Unfortunately no, I had 3 accounts go anywhere from 30 to 90 late during those months 2006- an electric company truck hit me on my way to work, I was hospitalized and then in a wheelchair and casts for months. I paid all of my accounts as soon as the settlement came through. I also closed them, because I was 18 and didn't know any better. I also had a chase health advance which I couldn't afford to make full payments on for several months in 2010 (lost my job), but I paid as much as I had each month, and paid off the balance once I was employed again, so I'm trying to systematically ask for goodwill across the board.

The Health Advance is still open so I am hoping that those will hurt less after two years (which will be this Oct) although different bureaus are reading as either 60 or 90 days late, which I think is where the major variance is between my scores. Experian has it as 30-60-60-60-60 from May to Sept 2010 (Score: 711), Equifax has it as 30-60-60-90-90-90 from May to Oct 2010 (Score: 678). This is the one that is really killing me I know, but I am scared to contact them for a GW because it is still open and I would hate for them to decide to close it and keep the negative report on file for 5 more years.

Re: Goodwill at Discover?

Hi,

I'm curious as to whom I should address a goodwill letter to.  Where should I search for that person's information, or even a pattern of their e-mail addresses?  What have you tried that hasn't worked?

Thanks for any info in advance.

Re: Goodwill at Discover?

You mentioned in your post that you had good success with chase.  Can you share with me your contact information.  I am trying to get a 60 day late removed.  Please pm me your contact.  Thank you!
