HIPPA question

Im trying to figure out if I understand the HIPPA process correctly. I have a couple of paid accounts that I want to get off of my report if possible. If I am reading the process correctly, you send the PRE hippa letter out no matter if the bill is paid or not correct? It just seems confusing because it states that you do not know what the debt is for and if it is paid when how can you dispute it? If this is the process I will do it, just wasn't sure if I was understanding correctly.

Re: HIPPA question

Can anyone tell me if I am understanding this? I have read the hippa process for the last 4 days now and I am still not sure if I am understanding it correctly. I would like to get started on this if I can.

Re: HIPPA question

Welcome to the forums!

Write the letters just as they're written. It doesn't matter what we know, the CA MUST prove the debt is valid, that they have a business purpose to your PHI (private health infromation) and they can legally report it to the CRAs. The CRAs MUST properly investigate your dispute and they cannot report a debt that has not been validation by a CA.

Re: HIPPA question

Can you give us more details on med collections?

When were the dates of service for your treatment?

Are the collections paid or unpaid?

If paid, who did you pay?

If unpaid, do you have the funds to pay them off in full?

Re: HIPPA question

I have some that are paid and some that are not paid. I am working on the paid ones right now and saving up money for the unpaid ones. I have 2 that have been paid for a while and I am not sure of the dates of service on these. I don't even know when these are scheduled to fall off of my reports. I think they are only reporting on experian at the moment, and experian does not have the dates that they are scheduled to come off on there for these, along with a couple of other things that are not medical. I was just noticing this yesterday with the dates not being there.

After I get these taken care of along with a few other things I will then start working on the non paid ones, but I want to clean up what I can right now at the present time.
