I have a paid collection on my report from Harris & Harris for an electric bill. Amount is $207. I think that I paid the electric company directly. If I want to try and have it removed from my report, should I contact the electric company first to verify the date it was paid and if directly paid to them or contact Harris & Harris?
Date of 1st Delinquency: 7/2010
Date assigned: 10/2010
Date reported/Status date: 10/2011
Also, it is not showing on Experian, just transunion and equifax.
Thanks for your help. Very new to this and trying to figure it all out.
You should call the debt collector.
You have a situation where deletion of the collection must voluntarily come from the reporting debt collector.
If you paid the OC while the debt collector still had active collection authority, the debt collector is not required to delete.
In fact, CRA policy informs them not to do so.
In hinsight, you could have made a PFD offer to the debt collector prior to paying, and dealt directly with attempting to obtain their deletion as a conditon for paying them.
Now, you are left to good-will requests.
