Welcome to the forum.... if it's on you, then the best you can hope for is a GW deletion. Otherwise it's going to be there for a while. Time heals all wounds.

If this was your only late payment they might be more lenient in forgiving a one time mistake.  Have you asked them yet?

Yes! This was their response.

Thank you for reaching out. I am a supervisor here at Self Financial for our Customer Success team. We are a small team and are trying to swiftly reply to all customers who need support. To ensure we reach you to address your concerns, we wanted to follow up with you via email in the hope we can remedy the situation.

I’m sorry to learn late reporting has negatively impacted you. Unfortunately, we are not able to accept Goodwill Requests to remove factual information from credit reports.

If you’re struggling financially, learn about late payment options in this FAQ, or check out our partner, SpringFour or other credit counseling organizations for support. Please choose carefully as cost or fees may apply to these services.

Thanks so much for reaching out and I'm sorry for any confusion or frustration caused by the Self program.

Best,

Supervisor, Self Customer Success

Don't give up.   Find as many addresses for executives as you can, and mail them the Goodwill request.  It only takes one person to say yes.  Good luck!

I have been looking into this type of issue for a long time and no one seems to care about it. It seems that if you goof just once and get a late payment ding, you are branded for life where your credit score is concerned! Advise articles tell you to contact them to ask to have it removed, but they won't really do it! It's been my experience with the credit bureaus and buisnesses reporting info that they credit the bad right away and leave it on the longest, but the good takes forever to register and they are very fickle with their score increases so they are quite fragile and any little thing knockes them right out! Transunion is the most unforgiving and punitive of the 3 main bureaus. I was even told that you probably can't ever get late payments taken off your credit but that "maybe" the entities extending you credit will look at the length of time it's been since those derrogatory remarks on your credit and be lenient on the weight they give them when evaluating your credit worthiness. This is a rigged system if ever there was one!!! A bad one at that... when one late payment is allowed to undo all the good that you do and haunt your credit forEVER!!!! So just know you are not the only one and we are forever screwed! Oh well....

@radclark, I'm not sure where you are getting your information from, but most of what you wrote is either misleading or blatantly false.  A few comments:

  • The credit industry is not colluding to give you the worst possible scores, they simply report facts and have lots of actuarial data to back up their scoring models.
  • One is not branded for life when one has an issue with their credit; other than a notation of a Chapter 7 bankruptcy which stays on your credit reports for 10-years, all other derogatory remarks fall off after 7-years; this may seem like "for life", but in the grand scheme of things, it isn't.
  • Regarding things like a single 30-day late, the pain it will cause one's scores will diminish over time, and long before the 7-year reporting period is up, it will have ceased to be a major scoring element.

Chapter 13:

  • Burned: AMEX, Chase, Citi, Wells Fargo, and South County Bank (now Bank of Southern California)
  • Filed: 26-Feb-2015
  • MoC: 01-Mar-2015
  • 1st Payment (posted): 23-Mar-2015
  • Last Payment (posted): 07-Feb-2020
  • Discharged: 04-Mar-2020
  • Closed: 23-Jun-2020

I categorically refuse to do AZEO!

It might feel like forever... But, it's just 7 years in most cases.
