I talked with EQ CSR just now. Back before I knew about PFD, Couple of issues:
1) Crap One CC-DOFD: 02/2003
Current Status: Charge Off
Comments: Paid Charge off,Acct closed by credit grantor.
Charge Off Amount: $0
Activity Description: Paid
I asked if the Current Status should not show paid, charge off? CSR said EQ does not have a statement code as such. It will remain Charge-Off in current status even if paid as this one is, but it shows $0 balance. I explained it is hurting fico score because status is not correct-she continued EQ does not have statement code............
2) Chase CC-DOFD:N/A, however in payment history 04/2002 90 day-no 30 or 60, so original DOFD should be 02/2002! EX & TU are correct DOFD: 02/2002
DOFD: N/A
Balance $0
ActivityDescription: Paid and Closed
Current Status: Pays As Agreed
Comments: Acct closed by credit grantor
When I asked EQ CSR why it did not show 02/2002, she said it must have already started to drop off, one month at a time. I don't think so! She said since Current Status shows Pays as Agreed, the account will not drop off my CR until 10 years, I inquired about the DOFD line showing N/A, she said that changed when current status went to PAYS AS AGREED, so this will remain until 2014, showing 81 month payment history, including all lates.
I then called Chase CC at 1-800-955-9900. I was told that the account is no longer in their system, it was too old, so it had been purged, they had no info!
I am about to pull my hair out at this point, please set me straight while I still have more hair than DH!
1) A charge off and paid charge off is still the same....a charge off. An unpaid CO hurts when it is showing a balance and jacking with your util. It shows a $0 balance, therefore isn't messing with util. I would leave it alone.
2) Was the account sent to collections, charged off, etc? If the account just has lates on it, the lates will drop off as they reach 7 years of age, it is possible after the last late is removed that the account will become a positive account and remain the remaining 3 years of CRTP.
They are not required to provide a DOFD if the account was not sent to collections or charged off.
The Chase CC was never sent to Collections or Charged off, shows worst delinquency 150 days past due, I would always manage to catch card up somehow, probably letting another CC go without payment. It looks like I would have been better off letting it go to Collections, then the entire tl would drop off after 7.5 years, but no, I tried to pay my bills. So now each one of these late payments will drop off one month at a time,7 years later.
I was under the impression, any derog, any late pays, would drop the tl after 7.5 years of DOFD. What a bummer!
This just does not seem right!
This actually benefits you.
I don't know the specifics of this account, but let me throw in some dates to demonstrate.
Let's say the account was opened 01/2000 and closed 2004
You had 4 lates in 2002.
If a DOFD of 2002 was reported, the entire account would be removed in 2009, including all the positives of the account.
As it is, the negatives only will be removed in 2009, leaving you a positive account for another 5 years, adding to your age.
I sent a 3 gw letters concerning the lates to Chase in October, 3 in November also, no response from them at all. Since I was told yesterday by Chase CSR that the account had been purged from their system, he could not pull up anything at all, do they not have anything on my account now?
So any questions that I have on this account, do they just have to rely on the info at the 3 CRAs concerning this account, which may not be correct on late pays?
I plan on pulling out old paperwork that is currently in attic to check this one out.
Any ideas?
purged from their system but not from the CRA? weird.
however, if information is still inaccurate at the CRA, i would then send a dispute letter to the CRA and request an investigation. if the investigation fails to fix it, send a MOV letter. IF MOV fails, send them an ITS letter for reporting incorrect information and failing to correct.

Chances are it was purged from the average CSR computer system, but another department at Chase can still access this information.
Since you are just sending GW letters, they are not required to respond.
If you truly believe the late pays are inaccurate, you can dispute them. If they are "verified" then you can send an investigation letter to the OC, asking them for proof of the late pays.
I just want to point out that if the payment history is only showing a 90 day late in Apr 2002, that late will be coming off in April and you will be left with a positive, aged account.
IMO, leave it be.
sidewinder- I wish that was the only late showing, but DH was involved in an accident and we had a couple of rough years during that time with our cards. I am currently going through 2002 file box now, but haven't found anything on this one yet. Box is so heavy, I had to borrow neighbor's teenage son to get box down attic steps for me.
Thanks for the advice. I will keep you posted when I solve this one.
