Help with AMX and Portfolio Recovery

Just pulled my report for the month, and I have two old collections from Portfolio Recovery showing. On my report, they are showing as the original lender, which is incorrect. In the comments section, it says "Collection account". Would this be enough to get it removed? Or should I DV or PFD for these two?

Also, I have an old AMX account - last activity was August of 2010. Its not showing as a collection, it's still showing in my revolving accounts, but shows as a charge off. Is there any way I can get this one off? Even willing to PFD, I just don't know if I should contact AMX by phone, since it's still showing as revolving, or if I should send a letter, or what.

Also, thanks to this forum. I've been hear since late Oct. Scores are climbing slowly, but surely.

Re: Help with AMX and Portfolio Recovery

You can dispute the Portfolio Recovery Account and they will most likely correct the reports at the CRA's. Portfolio will not do any PFD. If the AMX is american express they will not do any PFD. You need to look up the debt Statute of limitations in your State to see if these debts are still enforcable. If not then you can ignore them and if sued your answer will be the debt is past the Staute of limitations.

Re: Help with AMX and Portfolio Recovery

AMX is American Express. It is past the statute of limitations, but I was hoping there may be some way to work it out so that they would allow me to pay/remove?

Thanks for the PRA, I'll try the DV letter.

Re: Help with AMX and Portfolio Recovery

Debt collector reporting is retained in an entirely separate portion of a consumer's credit file, called the K-segment.

It is unclear as to how they are reportng as an orginal creditor.

Can you post a copy of the credit report?

You can file a dispute of the accuracy of any reported information.  Resolution of the dispute will require either verification of rthe accuracy as reported, or correction so as to overcome the inaccuracy.  The dispute would only apply to the information asserted to be inaccurate, and would not mandate removal of the entire collection.

DV and PFD paths are dependent upon your situaion.

Do you contest the debt, or is it valid?

If the debt is valid and removal from your credit report is the primary goal, then offering a pay for delete is the common course of action.

Re: Help with AMX and Portfolio Recovery

No way will AMEX remove a delinquent account unless it is illegal. I have one that won't fall off till 2019 that is paid off, but they refuse to remove it for any reason unless I prove it is not my account.
