Paid my UTL down from around 60% to below 40% ( I know >10% is optimum). I also paid off one collection and will start working on getting it deleted. They screwed up on their end so I have hope I can get it removed. I am waiting for some documents from IRS so I can work on the tax lien. I spoke to a lady who handles the waiver of penalty and interest letters and she said "oh you've paid a lot on this I don't see why we wouldn't waive it" so that is encouraging! I have 3 other unpaid medicals. I mailed out an offer to PFD but they didn't respond.
I'm still planted firmly in the 500's and my scores really haven't moved much in almost 2 years. I think I started around 550 and am at 590. I just want to hit 640 at this point. I don't have a mortgage on my records or a car loan. All I have are student loans and cc's.
It was so SO hard to take my income tax refund and spend so much on credit related things. I really have so much else I NEED to do with that money. I just pray it pays off. This has been 2 years, closer to 3 actually of hell and heartache.

slowly but surely!!!
Just keep plodding away.. it will come in spades as soon as you get the lien and collection off
but you should see some points from dropping the util

The drop in utilization will help with some points, but once you get the collection and the tax lien off you should see a nice bump. Slow and steady wins the race, I know it's hard and takes a lot of time but the benefits are worth the time and effort. Keep up the work and the rewards will follow.
I foresee about another year to work on that lien. They said it take up to 6 months just for them to work the letter to approve the waiver since they are so back logged on working on those. I am still waiting on the documents from IRS and then I have to file 09 and 10 tax years (I'll never use the online tax services again!). Once those years are filed and processed I have to re-submit my letter asking for them to waive the remaining penalty and interest. I can't seem to get a straight answer as to whether or not I can get it vacated and removed from my credit reports. It's like they don't understand what I'm asking. I was also told by one rep that it stays on for 7 years from the date paid. It's already been on there for 8 years now, since 06.
I'll probably have the UTL paid down in the next couple months. I had it low and kept it low and then Christmas came...
Well my score fell 3 pts yesterday. I don't know why either. I haven't used any cards and just made big payments on all of them. There was no alert as to why it fell.
