Short version, an old negative item dropped off my Experian report within the last few weeks, it'll apparently drop off of Transunion next month, and Equifax in September. How can they have such varying DOFDs?

They will generally drop within a six month window, after 7 years, but before 7.5 years. Sometimes they will drop all the same time, sometimes several months apart.
They do not necessarily have varying DOFDs.
They do have varying polices on their own voluntary early exclusion.
The FCRA mandates exclusion no later than 7 years plus 180 days from DOFD.
The CRAs rountinely exclude a bit earlier to avoid going over the statutory max. It is usually not based on a different reporting of DOFD by the debt collector.
Ahh, fascinating. Good to know, thanks! Just a matter of patience now… a matter of weeks until I have no negative items at all!

Same here... all my items are set for romoval 3/16 and 4/16. Will be calling TU in September and EQ/EX in Dec/January.
Also, be aware that DOFD applies ONLY to the credit report exclusion of a collection or charge-off.
DOFD does not apply to the credit report exclusion date/calculation of any other adverse information, such as monthly delinquencies, judgments, tax liens, BKs, etc.
