How do I fix this erroneous mess from Fifth Third Bank

Fifth third Bank has become the bane of my existence and I am looking for some help on how I can possibly fix this mess. They are reporting different data with every single bureau and are completely messing up my credit. I can't post an image so I will write up the data here:

On Experian, they have me as 30 days late 1 time on 09/2019 and OK for every other month since I got the loan in 2015.

On Equifax, they have me as 30 days late 1 time on 09/2019 and OK for every other month since I got the loan in 2015.

On Transunion, they have me marked 30 days late 9 times (04/2018, 08/2018, 09/2018, 10/2018, 11/2018, 01/2019, 07/2019, 08/2019, 09/2019) and although they NEVER marked me 60 days late, the note says the account was 60 days late.

The real annoying part is that I paid a lump sum of almost $15,000 to pay the account in full in 09/2019 and they did not consider that a monthly payment which is why they marked me 30 days late to begin with. The even more annoying part was the account was never marked as being late until I disputed the 09/2019 30 days late..the bank then came back and retroactively said "oh he was late these 9 times" as some sort of retaliation.

I have disputed this so many times that the bureaus are refusing to even let me dispute it again. Every bureau keeps looking at their records and saying "it's all verified as accurate" but nobody wants to look at all three and realize that is impossible that they are accurate if two bureaus show something on time for a month, while the third shows it 30 days late. ONE of them has to be wrong, right??? The bank also doesn't want to talk to me because I filed disputes.

If someone can give me some advice or if someone has had experience with this I would love the help!

The dangers of disputing. I would have gone directly to fifth third instead of disputing to start because of all the issues that come up with it. Did you send supporting documentation with your disputes? That is the thing, if they have more lates to tack on and you dispute, they do it. Hence the phrase around here of "don't poke the bear".

The 3Bs will definitely not do what the others do, they each do their own investigation and do not care about what the other bureaus report. I would definitely be happy they are "only" 30d lates instead of 60d+ lates because those can likely drag you down the entire 7 years score-wise. A single 30d late scoring penalty wise I believe drops off at around the 2 year mark.

From what you have put in your post, EQ and EX look identical.

What were you initially disputing that led to the additional lates being added? Was the lump sum in addition to a regular payment? Why was a lump sum due? Is this a loan payoff? Sorry, I do not know much about fifth third.

Hopefully others have some inight into the matter.

Good luck!

Re: How do I fix this erroneous mess from Fifth Third Bank

The original dispute was because after I paid the lump sum, which was considered a principal payment, they said that the regular payment for 09/2019 was still due and they marked me as 30 days late. Apparently I was supposed to send them two payments, one for the monthly and one for the principal and not just a lump sum principal payment...

The only reason I paid it off in a lump sum was because I had enough extra cash and didn't want an additional car loan in my name (it was my ex wife's car)

At this point should I just leave it alone and let it be? The last thing I want is for them to add those supposedly late payments to all three bureaus...

Re: How do I fix this erroneous mess from Fifth Third Bank

@Anonymous , to properly adjust your comment for future members reading this, the 30-late will remain the whole time but empirical evidence has shown that by the two year mark, many have regained about 2/3 of the points they lost from the delinquency.

OP, I would look at filing a CFPB complaint at this point. Make sure you have all of your documentation ready to go before you start - copies of the conflicting bureau reports, your payment history, everything, so you can file a proper and complete complaint. Don't bother with the BBB. They're toothless, basically a glorified Yelp. The CFPB has enforcement power and can make 5/3 and the bureaus straighten things out.

As far as I can tell, principal or not, a payoff is a payoff. That's pretty ridiculous to frame it otherwise.

+1. If you have the recipets of the payoff. Upload them to the CFPB. Along with copies of each CRA. If that doesnt work then grab a FRCA lawyer and a cool $1000 may be headed your way. Plus court cost and fees. Whata crock.

@FireMedic1 Thank you for posting that chart. I have it saved in the 20k-odd pics in my phone and trying to find it would take a week lol. That's one that every forum member should save.

@Anonymous @FireMedic1

I have done plenty of reading up, that is why I said "60d+". As from your chart, which I asked you kindly to post for reference, you can clearly see that 90d, 120d, 150d, and 180d have quite severe penalties. I also never claimed 30d lates sting for 7 years or are removed after 2 years, that is why I said "at least they are only 30d lates" and "A single 30d late scoring penalty-wise I believe drops off at around the 2 year mark". I dont believe I misspoke at all. He has 9 x 30d lates, they could have kept racking them up in time, even if it is not correct, because, well you know, creditors. Sigh. The number of lates can also be a factor, as this chart is about a singular lates and does not delve into multiples. So having multiple 60d lates certainly may be more painful than a singular 60d late.

Thanks!
