Account was closed in Nov 2014 and a CA picked it up and reported to my CR a few days ago. I'm willing to pay but I want it off my CR, so my question is do I contact the CA or OC??
That's not too long ago, so I would contact DirecTV and offer direct payment in exchange for them recalling it from collections.
Question is, did the CA buy it or are they just collecting for the service provider?
Are you in a rush to get this removed, or are you willing to be patient? If you need to get it off quickly, ignore the Collector and work with DirecTV, requesting them to recall it from collection BEFORE you will pay it. Make it clear you want it OFF your reports, and not updated. They may or may not agree to this. If you pay it before its recalled, the collector is not required to remove it.
Now OTOH, if you can be patient, again ignore the Collector completely, don't take any calls, and toss any correspondence in the trash. DirecTV will move it to a new collector in about 6 months time if there is no progress on the account. When they do that you will get a new notice from a new collector, before they report it. At that point, immediately call direcTV and pay them. Once its paid before the collecotr reports they will not subsequently report it, because doing so costs them money and there is nothing for them to collect on anymore. If the original collector has not removed their report just go online and dispute it with the comment "collector does not have collection authority for this account"
I had DirecTV removed from my reports in this manner in December.
Direct, Dish and comcast are a PITA to work with.

I called directv and the CA. CA said that by law they have to remove the account from my CR because truthfully I never recieved anything from them. Didn't know abt this until it hit my CR. CA did mention what you said which was that once they remove it then another CA would porbably pick it up sooner or later

If this CA is actually canceling the collection, removing their reporting I would verify they do so and then I would be getting on the phone settling it with the OC before they send it off to another CA.
Norman, I recently had a collections from Directv removed from my report because the CA did not respond to my dv letter. Do you think Directv will send the debt off to another CA, so I should just contact and pay Directv now?
Yes, call them and pay them now if they still own it. They will almost certainly send it to a new collector.
I think I read somewhere else (not this forum) that you can go online to your Directv account (or make one?) and see if there is still a balance with them... if so, they can be paid directly. I've yet to try it yet though... I have them in collections as well. *sad face*
Thanks everyone!!!!
