I received a 30 day late on my Kohl's credit card. When I called to speak with the back room manager to ask if they'd be willing to remove the late fee he indicated there was nothing they could do. I then called back and spoke to someone else and that person agreed to remove the late fees from my account and indicated that the late payment would not report. Upon checking my credit report this morning I realized that they did in fact report the 30 day late I called back to Kohl's and spoke with someone else who asked
who told me that the late payment would not report. I said the person who waived the fees. He determined that it was their fault since the agent informed me that they would not report the late payment. He then submitted a request to back office review and possibly remove. I also disputed with the credit agency. Do you think since they waived the late fee, that will be interpreted as Kohls admitting it was an error. Any thoughts?
No, because it wasn't their error in the first place. I also wouldn't have disputed since the late is technically legit. They agreed to do you a favor, but they're under no obligation to do so.
I agree with Omar. It wasn't an error because the payment was late and they reported it correctly. What they agreed to do was a goodwill deletion of the late payment from your credit reports as a one-time courtesy to you, which they are not required to do, but they were trying to help you out. I also would not have disputed it since there was no error in the reporting.
The back office manager was the one who suggested disputing it...
I have impeccable history with them, never late in the 10 years of possessing the card.
We will see what happens.

Bad advice on the part of the back office manager. Sorry.
Good luck.
