Looking for advice. Rebuilding after Identity Theft

Hello Everyone

Recently joined after dealing with the 3 CRA's attempting to restore my credit. I have noticed alot of you guys here are pretty dang good so i thought i would throw my desperation at you. A little back story, I noticed this September of 2018 when i applied for a line of credit to get a new laptop and was turned down. Looked at my report and about threw up. All of them were destroyed. I thought about bankruptcy but decided to fight, so now i need a little help and alot of advice. Im going to break it down by the 3 and see what you guys think, or if you have had experience with the same situation, i am willing to take any help. Please, if your hear to be negative or bash, i've been through it enough, so just move on to the next. When i began they were all in the really low 400's

Experian

578: Webbank Freshstart is showing still after dispute, the collection account that was sold has been removed. Do i suck it up and send send a good will letter, or keep fighting for them to remove it. No money is owed of course because it was sold, but its a negative. Two medical bills to a Hospital I have never heard of and the collection agencies can't tell me where they are, they refuse to take them off. Jefferson Capital (verizon cellphone bill), will not remove it. I have had Att for years and cant even get verizon where i am, i guess they think i like buying phones for paper weights.

Transunion:

582: Webbank again, same situation, collection account gone, but webbank still there. Oklahoma Motor Credit repo for 7,792. No delinquency showing, just repo. One medical bill same story as above. And an appartment complex, but ive owned my home for 9 years that wasn't proof enough.

Equifax......

558. Webbank. Western Shamrock, a loan company 100 miles away shows as bad debt, have not contacted them because the info given by CRA is a fax line. Oklahoma Motor Credit for 11,192, and an auto loan on my paid off car showing as a reposession. It actually shows paid off, and then another account with same account number as reposession. Both medical collections, the apartment complex, and jefferson capital.

I will admit that i don't know much about credit. I have never even had a credit card, other than care credit which i used for a surgery for my dog 9 years ago, and then closed it out later. After disputing things i started reading stuff online and saw you could add a fraud alert. I added it on 11/8 with Equifax and assumed like i read that all agencies would be notified and so the same. Well Experian added it the same day, and to this day Transunion still has yet to add it. When i called earlier today to inquire as to why it has yet to be done even though i have requested it and froze my report, the answer was that they were not notified. They were notified by Equifax and myself, any suggestions on what to do there?

Both TU and EX did remove all of the fraud inquiries on my account, EQ will not. They also will not remove the addresses, phone numbers, incorrect birthdates, or socials. I have faxed the required documents to them, and recieved paperwork in the mail it was fixed, only to call in to have them to tell me i need to fax documnts to have my ssn and bd fixed. Infuriating. They even disputed my car that is paid off as fraud when i didnt request it. I spent 3 hours on the phone tonight with them getting absolutly nowhere, other than a headache.

I have filed police reports, theft report with FTC, and complaints with the CPFB. I dont know what else to do. If you guys have any input i would greatly appreciate it.

I had good credit because of my student loans, car loan, mortgage, and multiple bank loans that were all paid ontime and in good standing, so i have no idea how to build my credit back once i get all this crap off. I mean the good will still be there, but i dont know if thats good enough to get me back where i was. There were multiple cc inquiries that i requested each company to remove, so im sure that is not going to look good calling back for credit after i said i didn't request their card in the first place. I have read the mortgage tricks, shopping cart tricks, and all of that, but i dont want to do a trick, i want MY score back without having to get credit cards, but if its a must, then its what i have to do.

Any positive advice welcome and wanted, im all ears and probably full of questions!

Thanks for reading my sob story if you made it this far!

Re: Looking for advice. Rebuilding after Identity Theft

I'm sure it is frustrating and sorry to hear about the heap of stuff that you need to deal with.  Since September, security freezes are free regardless of where you live.  At the very least, freeze the 3 major bureaus.  You don't want additional stuff showing up in the future and this will certainly help.

If you want to build credit, you have to have credit.  Given enough time, you can probably hit 800 with just a single credit card.  You need postive revolving credit history going forward.  You lose quite a few points off of your score for not having a credit card.  I would start there first.  I would try the Discover prequalifier and the Capital One prequalifier.  It won't affect your score so filling out the info is nothing to worry about.  Even if you are prequalified for a secured card, take it!  Nobody likes to put money up front but due to your profile, you may not have a choice.

If you are not prequalified for a card, the Open Sky secured Visa requires no credit check and is guaranteed.  There is an annual fee but the APR is reasonable for a card like this.

Continue disputing the accounts on your profile.

Please report back on the results from the Discover/Cap One prequals.  If you are prequalified for something, they will do a hard inquiry.  Once you have obtained a card, then do the security freeeze on all 3 bureaus.

There are other small bureaus you may want to consider freezing since someone has your info.  Let's take one step at a time though.

Re: Looking for advice. Rebuilding after Identity Theft

Thank you so much for your reply. I have them locked, but just noticed Experian lifted it bc i canceled their service to go with myfico. So i will freeze them all after i see if i prequalify. I just got a refresh of my scores and they rose a little bit so maybe somthing else came off.

I understand with the credit card and needing the revolving line, as of now i have 0.

What are your thoughts on the goodwill letter to webbank. It wasn't my debt, but maybe it would help since its just a mark and the collection agency removed it already.

Again i greatly appreciate it!

Capital One was a No, said too many inquiries..go figure. Got Discover and then froze them all like you said. I froze clarity and trust factor. Which other smaller ones are there out there to do?
