my experience with this process has been somewhat different - I followed the steps letter-for-letter, sent cashiers check about 2 weeks ago to the OC (following instructions for that also).
so today I received the uncashed cashiers check in the mail from the CA (yes, the OC sent it to the CA) with a letter that the OC refused to accept it and "in their opinion, I have mis-interpreted local laws and HIPAA, etc.."
they also added of course that "this account cannot be removed from credit, but if I pay it will be marked as PIF".
it's only for $174 and DOFD was less than 2 years ago.
sigh.. the process goes on...
