I have to disagree here.
If they request more information from you when you DV instead of sending validation, there are steps to handle it.
However, if the account is yours, you should NOT consider disputing it. When you dispute it, it gives them the right to request and obligates you to provide information to back up your dispute.
They aren't trying to "bluff" you into paying. They are trying to collect on a debt.
DV'ing and disputing are 2 separate things. One requires them to provide information when you request it, the other requires you to provide information when they request it.
You always want to be the one requesting and them providing if possible.
