Hi all,
As I have read a few articles in this forum, does Midland Funding automatically delete the debt when it is paid? I want to give them a call and settle the debt since they have sent me numerous 50% off debt letters and I finally want to get all that sorted out.
One of the worries is that if I pay off the debt with Midland Funding, I heard that it could still stay on my credit report from the original creditor? Is this true? All that I see on my credit report is "Midland Funding" with their account number and such.
Here is what is being reported on the account:
First Reported 07/2015
Original Creditor CITIBANK N.A.
Collection since July 2015
On Record Until Dec 2020
How would I go about convincing Midland Funding to remove the credit item from my report upon settlement?
So you have 2 accounts for the same debt: (1) original chargeoff from Citi and (2) the collection account from Midland. Is that correct?
Midland will remove their tradeline only - the collection account.
The original chargeoff tradeline from Citi will remain as Midland, the collection agency, has no abilty or authority to remove it - only Citi can remove it -- but they won't.

I don't see the Citi account on my credit report at all, I just see Midland Funding - I was just worried that since it said 'Original Creditor: Citi' that it might not be removed because of that - Since it only shows Midland Funding, then I shouldn't have any problems hopefully.
Yes, lucky you.
Midland will remove after payment - it usually takes about 30 - 45 days for deletion. Sometimes, they update the tradeline as Paid first, then request deletion on the next reporting cycle - just wanted to make you aware of that so you don't get upset if you see an update first...

Thanks for the response! Much appreciated! I'll contact them on Monday.
Yes they will delete upon PIF or settlement, as long as DOFD is at least 2 years. No need for any letter or confirmation. It's their public policy.

Just wanted to see if you were able to get deleted and did you pay over the phone or via check to midland? TIA in the process of buying a home and this would be major help!
@Anonymous If you can't find a closed Citi account or Charge off on any of your reports, count yourself lucky. Citi may have stopped reporting when they sold the original debt. This happened to me for 2 of my old cards that were charged off. One you take care of the collections, you should be good to go.
