My LVNV Funding Collection account

A little backstory...

Around 3.5 to 4 years ago, I attempted to gain service with Windstream Communications (a local TV/ Internet Service Provider)  I was mailed an internet router and advised it would work when I plugged it in.  It did not work.  I contacted them several times and was advised a techician would have to come out and I would have to be home for them to come into my home.  At that time I was working 5 jobs, 1 full time and 4 part timers.. needless to say I did not have time, during their working hours to have someone come to my home.  I explained this to them several times and asked to cancel service and return the router.  After approximately 6 months they finally agreed to allow me to return the equipment but charged me for 6 months of service I was never able to use totalling $327.  They even admitted I'd used 0 mb of data throughout the time I had the router.  I returned the router and ended my service with Windstream Communications.

Now I have a Collection account on my credit reports for LVNV Funding for $327- Windstream.  I don't know if I ever received a Dunning letter or not.

A few months back I sent LVNV a PFD letter request and received no reply but a Disputed by consumer has been put in my notes on my Credit Reports.

I further have noticed the Opening date on 2 of my reports is 12-4-15 and the other is 12-1-15.

I'm extremely new to the aspect of disputes/ validations/ rebuilding of credit so I come to you all in hopes of heading in the right direction to get this negative on my reports cleared up.  Do you have any suggestions as to what I need to be doing?  Do I resend PFD letters using the Saturation method described in these forums, or dispute with the Bureaus?  Also is there anything I can do to "dispute" the Disputed by consumer comment or is a PFD letter considered to be a dispute?

I appreciate any and all assistance in this matter. I understand I have accrued this debt, don't really agree to how it was accrued as I requested several times to cancel the service within the first week, but at this point I just want this taken care of and behind me.

Re: My LVNV Funding Collection account

Sorry I can't offer any advice, but I'm sure going to watch this thread. Sounds like a horrible company. I guess one thing I'd do for certain is to file a complaint with the BBB; might do some good.

If they grant the PFD, then the issue of any inaccuracies becomes moot.

A dispute of information that is not related to the legitimacy of the debt per se will not, even if you prevail, mandate deletion of the reported collection.

It can be resolved simply by correction of the disputed information.

I would not dispute anything until the issue of their good will acceptance of the PFD offer has been resolved.

I'd really just assume go the PFD route since it's not a horribly high debt and I wouldn't have to worry about it coming back onto my CR months down the road...  (with my luck right in the middle of my mortgage process)...  but does it sound like I'm on the right path by sending, or continuing to send, PFD requests?  or is there another route that might be better suited for now?

I'll keep this thread updated as this progresses, as of now I know nothing of filing a complaint with BBB and for some reason it seems rather intimidating... lol.. I'll probably take it into consideration further if my PFD letters go with no success after some more trying... Thanks for the input!

Re: My LVNV Funding Collection account

I would file a BBB complaint against the oiginal credtor.  you can do it right online.  I ultimately had to resort to filing a BBB to get Nissan Motor to remove a late payment that was being reported for a deferred payment.  I tried worknig it out by calling and sending letters first.  They responded to the BBB Complaint by removing the late payment.  It is an affective tool when the consumer feels like they aren't being treated fairly.
