I have 4 student loans with outstanding balances of $44K. Sometime in mid-May, they started listing me as having 8 loans with outstanding balances of $88K. They are obviously double listed but for some reason have different account numbers. I've called the student loan people and they say it's ok on their end and that it is equifax's error. I wrote a dispute to equifax, they received it, docked my score 15, and investigated it. They found it to be legitimate. I called equifax, waited 15 minutes on hold, and then a woman gets on and basically says are you sure those aren't correct? I politely say, "No Ma'am, I only went to school for 4 years, if I went for 8, I could understand 8 loans." She grumbles and says ok we'll have to investigate it. I pull my score today after speaking with her yesterday (I'm working on a mortgage) and they whacked it another 15 because of investigation! Now they will probably come back with the same thing and I'm just going to keep getting wacked 15 points until they figure it out?!? Do you think my score will rebound significantly when 4 accounts and $44K are cleared off my plate?
Thanks for your time.
