New to this and need some help!!!

Ok I have a couple of questions for yu pro's out there...

I have a couple of lates listed on my NFCU account:  2/21, 9/19, and 9/17.  Each of these were just honest mistakes.  I forgot to pay the bill.  I have called in the past to ask for a delete for the 9/19, however, they refused to delete it and stated that if it is accurate they cannot delete.  Any idea about what my options are with this?

I also have a late on Synchony from 12/2017.  This is the only late on this account which has been open since 10/2015.  I'm not sure what happened there.  Any idea how to remove this as well?

My husband and I are wanting to apply for a mortgage soon but I am worried about these lates having a negative impact...

Goodwill requests are you only option.

I do know that a recent late (within 12 months) is going to be difficult to get a mortgage with. I am not sure if it is impossible, but it will be certainly more difficult and may limit what type of mortgage you can get - honest accident or not.

It is true that they have to report accurately, but you can asking them to not report anything at all for that month - like a ND (no data) which is neutral. You are not asking them to report that you were not late (inaccurate), but nothing at all (not that you were or were not late). It is not a negative and will not impact your scores. With NFCU (or any bank, really), it may be more difficult to get a GW request considering how recent the most recent late was and it was not the first. It is a little easier to ask for a first time late goodwill waiver or for one after many months of on-time payments.

For the isolated late with Sync, you may have better luck since you have not been late in years and it was a one-time incident.

There are lots of threads here in the forum on GW requests and the creditors you are seeking them from. Do not use a template, it should be original, because they probably get lots of these requests and probably know when they see something genuine vs copy and paste.

Essentially it should be a request where you take accountability, a compelling reason why (but brief), how you plan to and have rectified it (auto pay, checking account more frequently, back up savings, etc), and an apology/thank you. Blaming the creditor or everyone else (unless legitimately not your fault) will not go far when asking for a favor. Be detailed but consice and brief.

Good luck!
