Well, unlike you, I am not willing to give a stranger on the phone my credit card or bank account information just because he says I owe him money. I asked them repeatedly to send me something in writing, I have been at the same address for 38 years. They would not. If they indeed had a legitimate debt that I forgot about or did not pay for some reason, I was completely willing to pay it. I pay my bills. Always have. The fact that he did not have the correct birthdate concerned me as well. It wasn't even close which makes me think he was guessing. You can google people and get their address and phone #, but not their birthday. Alarms went up for me immediately. I have lived in the same town for 38 years, worked for the same company for 19 years and I have NEVER heard of the company they said I owed this money to. NOTHING about this whole thing made sense to me. I think I was able to resolve it so quickly because it wasn't legitimate in the first place. So, in conclusion, good for you that you paid the debt you owed. I pay my debts as well. Just not to scam artists who call demanding payment over the phone. I'm not that gullible.
