Northland Group Inc/ Capital One

Hello All,

Trying to fix my credit due being irresponsible when i was younger. Recently received a letter from Northland Group Inc saying my acct is past due and the balance is $1300.00 and they are willng to settle for $650. This is an old capital one account that is a charge off. Capital one is reporting a zero balance on my credit reports. The DOFD looks to be 04/2008 so I am still in the SOL since I am in california.

On the letter they say they are collecting for Client: Equable Ascent Financial LLC and the OC is : Capital One Bank. Also this is not reporting on my credit report at the moment nor do I see anything for Equable Ascent Financial on my CR.

Should I DV? and Is there anything to PFD? Ignore it since there is nothing on my CR except for the Capital One Charge off and Zero Balance?

IMO if you have the money I would say settle it. If they are not reporting I wouldn't think you would need to send a PFD letter since there is nothing for them to delete. I would suggest though that you do DV first before making any payments. Just make sure after you send your last payment you get a confirmation that the debt has either been paid in full or settled which ever you decide to do.

Re: Northland Group Inc/ Capital One

Welcome to the forums!

I'd suggest reading the following:

Common Abbreviations

Credit Scoring 101 - great for knowing what is in your credit score and to see how your score is impacted.

What Steps Do I Take - great for learning the repair process.

and Example letters - PFDs, GWs, DVs, etc.

You might want to double check the DOFD. CapOne has a habit of owning the debt up to the expiration of SOL and at that point either suing or selling it. In other words, if they report $0 now, it is quite possible the SOL expired and your DOFD is earlier.

I'd DV the CA and wait for their response.

ETA..............I'm a slow typer.

Re: Northland Group Inc/ Capital One

lilazngoof,

I also have Northland Group as a CA for University of Phoenix.  I sent them a DV letter over 30 days ago requesting full media (validation) with no response.  I then received another settlement offer in the mail a couple weeks ago.  I am not sure if there is anything I can do about it because they are not reporting to any of the CRA's, University of Phoenix still is.

I responded to their second letter by sending a PFD letter with hopes that they will convince UoP to delete the tradeline from my credit in exchange for the payment.  I said all that to say, DV Northland Group, and when you do make sure you send it CMRRR.  That way, if they don't respond you can send a complaint to the FTC and the BBB.  It's all about leverage in this credit repair game.

Let me put out a disclaimer that I'm not sure if this is something that will work for you, but you can also try sending Capital One an OC letter, asking them to provide information on the account, and any collection activity if available.  Maybe one of the more seasoned members of the group can assist you with that.

Hope this helped

Starting score: (April 2011) 530 - myFICO EQ
Current score: (04/2012) EQ - 608 (myFICO), EX FAKO - 671, TU FAKO - 619

Let's see what happens once they report minus the late payments!!!!!!

Re: Northland Group Inc/ Capital One

I am in a payment plan with Northland now for a Cap One co but Cap One still owns mine. Northland does not report to the CRA's, was one of the first things I asked them when I emailed them. They are just hired by whoever owns the debt to collect it for them.

Re: Northland Group Inc/ Capital One

Thanks for all the tips so far. I'm going to go ahead and send my first ever DV to Northland Group and see what happens

llecs- On my CR my first 30 Day late seems to be report as 03/2008 so I assume thats DOFD. And they are definately reporting it as a zero balance.
