Old Medical Bill

What do I do about an old Medical bill from 2007 when at the time of service I gave them my mililtary ID card for insurance and they never submitted it to TRICARE.  TRICARE has no record of a submission of the bill and it's past the 1 year mark to get this submitted.  I have been fighting with this company since 2007.  I have disputed it on my credit report evvery year, but it's still reporting.  Any ideas?

Re: Old Medical Bill

The dispute process does not require their production of documentation in order to verify accuracy. It is an administrative procedure that relies upon their conducting a reasonable investigation and reporting accurately based on those results.

You appear to have an issue of whether you were properly billed at the time of services.

It takes a court to compel production of evidence and rule on the facts.

I suggest small claims court.

What they mean is they can't bill TriCare after the one year mark; as the insured, you can request payment even after all this time.  I have a similar situation that required me to put a request in writing to the investigation department of my son's insurance company since they couldn't access the files ( also from April 2007).  The rep told me it may take up to 45 days, but if/when it's determined that my son was covered and the bill somehow wasn't paid for ANY reason, it will be paid...the provider also agreed to have the account deleted once payment was processed.  I'd start with TriCare...good luck!

Re: Old Medical Bill

I have requested a copy of the bill from the hospital several times and they have yet to send it to me so I could take it to TRICARE. TRICARE said the same thing to bring the bill to them. But I can't submit something the hospital wont send me hence it stays on my credit report. I'm at a lost as what I should do since they won't send me the bill and I have tried everything to get it. I live in Georgia so i can't just walk into thw billing department to request it.

They can't simply refuse to provide you with a bill if they're saying you owe them money...and the average rep in billing at the hospital won't have access to records that old and the CA only has an amount due and date of service at best .  Ask to speak to a supervisor and ask for a Health Information Claim Form for the date of service.  That form will detail the services you received as well as what insurance company they attempted to bill.  Unfortunately, some reps are content with only providing their limited knowledge as opposed to finding out how to help you solve the problem at hand.

You can dispute a CA with the BBB? Didn't know that, can you please explain how that works.

Re: Old Medical Bill

Yes I would like to know how that works as well. I have a medical collection from 2007 and they keep verifying it. It was not mine, it was my sons a month after he was born. It was from a specialist that I had a referal for and somehow $124 didn't get charged or paid. I checked with insurance a long time ago and they didn't show anything from this claim wasn't paid, so I have no idea what to do. Its a collection from Gulf Coast Collections and I would LOVE to get this off all my credit bureaus and would appreciate any help at all to do this.

I just tried putting in a complaint with BBB, it almost immediately came back closed Unable to Process Smiley Mad

Re: Old Medical Bill

All I did was state my claim that i provided proof of insurance at time of service but that the hospital never billed my insurance. My insurance has no proof that it was ever submitted to them.

Did it give any other reason besides unable to process?
