Last year my credit union charged off my checking account with a negative balance owed, and eventually sent the debt to a collection agency.
A little while later the collection agency reported the debt with my Equifax credit file with the balance owed.
Earlier this year, I called the credit union directly, to pay off the balance. They took the payment, and after almost a year, opened the closed checking account again. Same account number, and all the same history present.
Because of this I disputed the entry with Equifax, looking to have it removed... it returned with an update, as "PAID".
Anyone have a similar experience, or valuable input?

that's accurate
I'd ask the CU to pull the collection given they were willing to open the checking account back up, they might be able to get the collection company to pull the collection
