Thanks guiness, I have been researching the HIPAA process and plan on carrying on with it.
Can you give me some insight about the other issue I had in my above credit report break down? I mentioned the Jefferson Capital baddie on my accounts above. Can you read over that issue and tell me what I could do about this?
Thank you for your contributions. - Matt
If you never opened that card it is fraud. I would fill this out http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/resources/forms/affidavit.pdf and file a police report. Send both copies to the CRA and tell them to block the account, They have to do it and you do not need to prove fraud.
Send both documents to Jefferson and ask for any and all documentation they have on this alleged debt.
Thanks again guiness, great info that should greatly improve my score with that taken off my report. 2 Questions though, 1. How would I go about filing the police report? Mail it, take it the police station, or what's the best method? Never had to do that before so unsure. 2. When I send Jefferson the copies and ask for the info on debt, what should I do when they send it to me?
Thanks!

No, just walk in with that form and fill out a report of fraud.
Look at the documents and see if you can distinguish who opened the account and when.
Well coincidentally I received a letter in the mail from the collection agency for the Sprint baddie on my report. It says they would settle for 50% of the debt I owe, which would be just over $400.
I'm satisfied with that as I want it off my credit report. What is the best method of handling this? If I can pay it, then the only way I would accept their offer is if it was completely removed from my report. Can you offer your suggestion on this?
I found it might have been a blessing from up above as the same time I decided to work on my CR, this came in the mail and this is from years and years ago. If I can get this off, that would only leave mostly just my medical bills on my collections. Which I am in the process of having removed through the HIPAA process. Also, around how many points would my score go up if I had the Sprint removed? Just curious.
Thanks!
Matt
I would counter offer with a higher % for the deletion from your CR.
Do it in writing so you have some sort of paper trail.
Is both Sprint and the CA reporting?
There is no guarantee the so called HIPAA process will work. It did years ago but has stopped being helpful about 95% of the time. If not more.
It is the CA on behalf of Sprint. Convergent is the name of the CA.
So what percentage do you suggest I counter with? I figured I would write them back and say I would pay the 50% if they removed it from my credit. But do you have any idea how much it would improve my score? Or would it even be worth paying? I don't really have 400 bucks lying around to do it, but if it would improve my score a good bit then I will do it.
Thanks!
matt
How many points is based on your entire credit profile so is hard to guesstimate. The newer the collection the worse it is impacting your score. A collection from 4 years ago would garner less points than one from 3 months ago.
If it is your only major derogatory would also play into it.
I'm also interested in the HiPPA process, as all of my colections are medical, with no other issues to speak of on my credit. Can you pm me the information as well? TIA
