Please Help

Hello all, I need some help understanding how improving our credit scores work. My husband's is 583 and i am 554. We have paid off all of our debt and wrote letters to all 3 credit reporting agencies, showing they are paid in full. How long will it take until we are ready to apply for a mortgage? Any suggestions are appreciated!

Re: Please Help

Are those FICO or FAKO scores?

If FICO, from what CRA?

When you say you paid everything off, was it collections? Paying collections will not help your score, normally.

Do you have positive accounts reporting?

Revolving accounts? If so, what is your util?

What negative items do you have?

Re: Please Help

These scores are FICO scores, Ex reporting 565 (husband). Transunion (me) reporting the 554. I got these scores from the free credit report site, and did not pay for all 3 agencies. I was afraid that this would blemish our credit even more. And wasn't sure if this was a good option. Yes, these were collections accounts. My husband has positive accounts. (mortgage that was just paid off, and a car) I have no accounts open. We have no revolving accounts, I was afraid to apply for any credit. I have 3 judgements I paid off in June. Negative items on my report are, credit cards collections (2),and student loan.

Re: Please Help

When you ask when was my last payment? I am not sure what you mean by that? Yes, we have collections and public records, that were paid.

If you got these scores from annualcreditreport.com, then these scores are FAKO (fake) scores. The only exception would be via EQ, which is a true FICO score. The only place to get your EX FICO score is via this site. And no, pulling won't hurt you any. It produces a soft inquiry and those won't ever hurt you.

Whether paid or unpaid for a collection, the damage is the same to your scores, but you would look better via a manual review. You can work to get them removed via a GW letter to each of the CAs and to any charged-off acct you paid.

Ignore the scores you just pulled, unless you know one of those was from Equifax. Otherwise, pull each of the 3 via this site. You want to compare your score with the others mentioned in this site and selectively apply for CCs based on your score. Adding 2-3 CCs (1 should be a store charge card) will increase your scores by an additional 30-40 pts (conservative estimate).

The judgments will remain for 7 years from date filed.

The two CC collections that you have, who is reporting them and are they paid? What is DOFD, DOLA, and SOL on those accounts?

Is the SL unpaid or paid? Who is reporting it? What is DOFD?
