Portfolio Recovery Removed!!! - Getting my credit swagger on!

Hi Everyone!!! So I dont even know what to say or where to begin. I like the new Experian commercial about getting your credit swagger on and I feel like that's me. I want to shout out to all the people on here getting their credit swagger on!

Today, I logged into credit Karma and it stated Portfolio recovery was removed!!!!!!!!!!! . I am also not sure why or how. I have disputed this account several times,  PRA kept refreshing the dates and renewing the date it was reported everytime I disputed it, I had also filed a CFPB complaint in January and filed a BBB complaint a few weeks ago. What's weird is that PRA was going back and forth with me and I kept going back and forth with them via BBB but inadvertently, BBB had closed my complaint by mistake stating I didnt return the BBB consent.

So I called TU today and was informed PRA is gone!!! I checked Experian too and is gone . I dont know if they got tired of me, or if it was the CFPB or the BBB or all 3!!!! But they are gone!!!!!   For some reason though PRA is still on Equifax but I think Equifax moves slower.

What's weird is I have monitoring with myfico and I got zero notification, my understanding is that even my score has gone up but I have heard nothing from MYFICO.

Anyway got my credit swagger on headed into the 700's!!!!!!!! I will post back once and if I find more details on what happened. Bye Portfolio Recovery - I will NOT MISS YOU.

Did they own the debt, or were they only an assigned debt collector?

What is the DOFD on the account with the original creditor?

They were the debt collector and i need to double check the DOFD but its around April 2010

Contact the OC, its likely they have moved it to a new collector that has not yet contacted you.

So do you know why the OC would do something like that? I thought OC's sell these debts to these collectors. Plus, can the OC move it if it out of SOL? Thanks.

If the debt is charge off, they likely sold the debt to a collection agency. They can move it, sell it or whatever, even if its out of SOL. If you make a payment on it, it does become renewed and makes it legal for them to collect on it.

YAHOOOOOOO!!!! I just got PRA to delete for me too. 1st I filed a CFPB complaint, and then a BBB complaint. Not sure which one did it, but they replied to the BBB saying they would delete the tradeline from all three credit bureaus. In my case, I paid the collection agency, but they were re-aging the debt to look more recent, and were recording 120 lates on EQ. Was your collection paid? If so, I wouldn't worry about the how/why...just be glad to have it gone. If it is unpaid, then you might have to be on the lookout for another CA on your CR's. MyFICO did not alert me either, I just pulled my daily reports from MyPrivacyMatters.com, and they are gone!!

Thank you for your response!!!! Really good advise. I am very happy for you that they deleted their account from your reports!!!!! I have been dealing with PRA for a long time so when they delete it anything it is a miracle and such a relief!

For me I didnt pay them anything, however I requested validation which was contradictory to what they were reporting and  there were so many discrepancies in their reporting and so I called them out on all of it so I think they probably decided to just delete and I have all the paperwork saved. Even though BBB messed up  and closed my complaint on 3/19, it appears PRA had deleted it on 3/17.

Either way I am just so happy and thrilled they are gone!!!! - I will keep an eye on my reports however in the meantime.

SOL only determines whether you can be sued for it or not. Thats it.

The OC can either sell a bad debt outright, or they can 'assign' it to a collection agency. Communication companies, like AT&T, Verizon, Comcast, DirecTV, ect., tend to assign their delinquent accounts rather than selling them.

Even if a debt is sold, the owner will often resell it in the secondary junk debt market when the debtor starts to put up a fight, and makes it clear its not likely to get paid - particularly if its past SOL. JDB's are out for the easy money, not the tough collections.

If this is a valid debt, as already suggested you might want to contact the OC and settle before they ship it off to another CA. Grats on getting the removal
