Possible Santander Success? Need opinions

So I have had a battle with Santander USA for months now involving a settled account that I settled with Citi before the account became property of Santander (they bought their portfolio, this wasn't a debt with outstanding balance) -- the gist is that I agreed wtih Citi to settle the account, for 75 percent of what was owed, in exchange for this account not being reported any longer to my reports. Which Citi honored. This was written on Citi letterhead as an agreement. Signed, the whole ball of wx.

Fast foward 2 years, Santander listed this account as a repossession charge off, settled less than full amount. Dropping my score many, many points as is now listed negative. After several letters, and a really nasty one care of my attorney, I got a response with the gist of:

'Santander USA has investigated this matter and based on the information you have provided, we have determined the validity of your dispute. We have requested the following change to your credit reports:

Reason 1: Closed - Paid In Full

It will take 30 days........ blah blah blah'

My quesiton is it is currently showing Charge Off / Settled for less than full amount. Will this change constitute a recoding of the account and making it less damaging or is this just a token gesture?

Opinions please! Smiley Happy

I'm not sure what you mean.  It looks like they are going to honor the agreement you had with Citibank.

Re: Possible Santander Success? Need opinions

You were the one I was hoping would respond.. and I think I agree with you.. I supposed we will see after 30 days..

I honestly didn't know what to expect from this last attempt, based on our previous discussion with it, so here are my fingers crossed!

I think that if they do what they say then the account will turn into a positive account.  You may actually find that is better than having the account deleted.
