Are you saying that the debt with Comcast shows a debt collector reporting a collection?
If the OC is willing to accept payment and delete their reporting, they can do so if they still own the debt.
However, they cannot agree to delete reporting they did not make, and you wont be assured of deletion of the collection.
You could offer a PFD to the debt collector to first attempt deletion of the collection.
If the debt collector will not agree to a PFD, then you could request the OC to first terminate their assigned collection, and then pay the OC.
CRA policy mandates that a debt collector who has had their collection authority terminated prior to any payment of the debt delete their reported collection.
Reporting that it's been paid likely means they plan on updating the report to simply show paid. You'll still have the negative mark that it was a collection account, but in the eyes of a future credit underwriter during a manual review for new credit, it would look better that you took responsibility. But, just them saying they'll report as paid does not mean it will be removed. You could ask for a PFD, but they may not be willing to do that.
