Question about collection on credit report

Ok so I've been cleaning up my report so get prepared for my mortgage application and I have three things on it as of right now

Verizon amount owed is 221 (been on the report for 6 years)

Comcast 270.82 (it went delinquent in Feb of this year)

Rcn 274 (Jul of this year)

So here's my dilemma, I spoke to Comcast and rcn and they both told me that i can pay them and they will report to the credit agency that it's paid and they will remove it. Is that true? I'm assuming so because it hasn't been sold to a creditor yet.

Comcast says I C systems on my report and rcn just says rcn

So is this true? If is I want to dig into my savings and pay it off to boost the score for the mortgage application.

Thanks for your help guys

Re: Question about collection on credit report

Are you saying that the debt with Comcast shows a debt collector reporting a collection?

Re: Question about collection on credit report

Sorry about that but it shows credit protection as the collection agency and Comcast as the original creditor. It was opened on Mar 17 2015

Re: Question about collection on credit report

If the OC is willing to accept payment and delete their reporting, they can do so if they still own the debt.

However, they cannot agree to delete reporting they did not make, and you wont be assured of deletion of the collection.

You could offer a PFD to the debt collector to first attempt deletion of the collection.

If the debt collector will not agree to a PFD, then you could request the OC to first terminate their assigned collection, and then pay the OC.

CRA policy mandates that a debt collector who has had their collection authority terminated prior to any payment of the debt delete their reported collection.

Ok great, when I spoke to Comcast and rcn they both said they would report to the cra that the debt has been paid but will that remove it? I was under the impression that it's best to work with the original creditor first to handle things.

Re: Question about collection on credit report

Reporting that it's been paid likely means they plan on updating the report to simply show paid. You'll still have the negative mark that it was a collection account, but in the eyes of a future credit underwriter during a manual review for new credit, it would look better that you took responsibility. But, just them saying they'll report as paid does not mean it will be removed. You could ask for a PFD, but they may not be willing to do that.

Re: Question about collection on credit report

Ok now I understand, I'll pay it and just be happy with the fact that It'll show paid. Thanks guys. I guess I'll look for other ways to bolster the scrore a bit. I'm at 48% of credit use so I'll start there.
