RJM Acquisitions, Liars!

So I sent RJM a PFD offer of $75 on a $120 debt about two weeks ago.  Today, I receive a green notice telling me they accept my settlement offer of $75 with instructions on how to pay.  There was no mention anywhere of deleting from my credit, or even acknowledging that I had asked for that.  It was just their form settlement letter.

So I picked up the phone and dialed the number listed.  The woman comes on the phone and I explained to her that my settlement offer was only valid if the deletion was in writing.  She comes back and tells me that the deletion was not in the notice because they are not reporting on my credit.  So I'm thinking, "maybe they deleted already recently?"  I told her that I had a subscription for unlimited access to my credit reports and would check.  She put me on hold for about 5 minutes.

While waiting, I went to USAA and pulled my current report, which of course has RJM reporting to 2 of the CRAs.  When she came back, I told her what I saw.  After a moment, she says there will be a new letter with deletion language in the mail tomorrow.  Clearly, they just tried to lie to me in order to get me to pay while continuing to report on my credit.  Hopefully I will have the real letter soon, and knock off another baddie!

Re: RJM Acquisitions, Liars!

I had something similar happen to me, they emailed me the PFD letter, but mailed a regular settlement offer - they did delete one of my other collection accounts and were very responsive for my next one.

Re: RJM Acquisitions, Liars!

Maybe I will call today and ask them to email it to me.  I would love to just get it done and out of the way earlier.

Re: RJM Acquisitions, Liars!

So RJM quickly emailed me the letter agreeing to a PFD and settlement of $75 on $120 today!  I called them and paid it on the phone with my credit card.  I have good documentation that all they are to take is $75, so if they try to do anything dumb, I can easily have Capital One take care of any unauthorized charges.

Anyway, when I asked when it would be removed from my credit reports, they guy just said they report on a monthly basis.  I didn't feel like grilling him for more info since I am just happy to get rid of it.  Has anyone else had any experience with them and PFDs?  How long did it take to go away from yours?

Thanks!

Re: RJM Acquisitions, Liars!

The Golden rule for dealing with and OC/CA/JDB settlement is get it in writing always. Do not ever believe anything a collection agent (et al) says on face value, get it in writing !

Good Job OP !

Yeah, from what I read here from others, and based on my own experiences, they will absolutely agree to the PFD.  It seems that it is standard procedure for RJM to do them when someone asks for it.  I think I was in the minority when they tried to pull a fast one on me.  Who knows, maybe the person I talked to just made an honest mistake instead of lying.  Obviously I'll never know for sure.  Either way, your second letter probably just got overlooked.  I'm sure they'll approve your second PFD.

Re: RJM Acquisitions, Liars!

WOW I'm sorry to hear that.  I didn't experience any problems with them.  I sent a goodwill letter and they deleted both accounts within 14 days.   It will work out.

I received a secure email message (and a letter in the mail) from them a couple of days after my payments cleared, that had the documentation showing that they were going to delete the TLs from the CRAs.

I don't know when it actually got deleted because they weren't reporting to my EQ, and that's currently the only one that's being monitored.
