Hi everyone, I've followed this board for a long time but I am just now posting. I'm working on my credit report and I noticed that one of my trade lines may be holding my score down. The account is with the OC, on the website they have the account as 'written off'. On my credit report they have 30 days late Feb 2021, 60 days late March 2021. From March 2021 there is NO Data being reported. However they added 60 days late Jan 2024 and 60 days late Feb 2024. I was recently in a Chapter 13, which was discharged as of March 2024. No additional reporting has been done since Feb 2024. I would like to know if the way they are reporting would be suppressing my score even more. If the lates started in Feb 2021, wouldn't a continued string of the lates be accurateamd less damaging since its older?The way they are reporting makes me think the FICO algorithm scores this as a recent 60 day late, when in fact it's from 3 years ago.
A couple of years ago I was helping someone who experienced this. Yes, this type of reporting hurt her score more because it appeared it was a new late and not a continuous issue. Was this creditor included in your bankruptcy?
Anything that occurred before filing which includes the score hits will stay. A 60 day is a bit more damage than a 30 of course. Just have to let time take the sting away until its gone. When the 30 day hits 7 yrs. The 60 will go at the same time as its called a string.
@CorpCrMgr1 Yes this was included. They are only reporting like this on Experian. On the other two reports the account is listed as closed and the 30 and 60 day lates are reporting from 2021, after that they reported no data.
@FireMedic1
Yes, the lates before filing I agree are accurate. However, they reported those lates, and then my report shows no data up until Jan and Feb 2024 when they reported the late marks again. What I'm thinking is that reporting this way hurts my score more because it makes it seem like the lates are recent and not from before I filed. They did not report any late marks on my credit after I filed until Jan and Feb 2024, and I was still making payments to the trustee. So it looks like I have new lates from 2 months ago but the lates are actually from years ago.
Sounds familiar... I had a similar thing happen to me when I disputed an account for EE a few months before it fell off my report... it updated and appeared as if the late was recent when in fact it was 6+ years prior.
I just accepted it for what it was and waited till it fell off.
No negative entries can occur after the file date. So you may file a dispute and get them removed or placed back where they belong.
That's what I thought as well. I sent them an email with proof they are reporting like this. Hopefully, they delete the negative information from Jan and Feb.
