Just need to rant! I received an alert this morning that Pheonix Financial posted a "new" collection to the CRAs.....again......after they've been previously been disputed and removed for non-ownership. I've been paying off collections listed on my reports since January and only had three left, then woke up this morning to what I consider a nightmare. I haven't gone delinquent on any accounts. I've been diligent in paying off old bills and keeping up with new ones so they don't go to collections. Now, this. It's so infuriating. I've already disputed, but I am so disgusted at this company. Livid is an understatement. I had finally improved my scores significantly. It's really deflating. My scores at this point are less than what they were when I started my credit "clean up" in January. I would've had a "clean" report this January. I have two left to pay off this month. The other I'm letting fall off (should be January 2018). Now this Phoneix Finanacials shows as a new collection, so I'm looking at 7 more years of having a stain on my report. ![]()
Not necessarily 7 more years. What is the DOFD on the account? What exactly do you mean that it was removed for non-ownership? Have they sold this collection to another agency?

Thank you for responding
They are saying it was opened February 2017 with DOFD 11/1/2015. It previously reported and I disputed under the "This is not my account" option. The company they are collecting for is a medical facility 500 miles away from my house. I'm sure I didn't drive that far to go to a hospital when I work and live right beside one. As far as I know, this isn't a purchased account from another collection agency. The balance they are reporting is different too. It doesnt match up to ones they previously reported. They previously reported 3 accounts with different amounts to one CRA, and one account with one amount (looked like maybe the sum of what they reported to the other CRA, but did not add up the same). Now it looks like they're trying to change the balance again, as well as having a new "account" number. I wish I could sue the hiney off that company!
Do you have a common name? If you are absolutely, positively sure they are not yours, it may be time to call the actual collection agency and get something in writing from them that this is not your account(s) and submit that to the CRA's. If it is being reported based on name and not actually your personal information, such as social security number, than the problem may be with the CRA's and not the collection agency. You can dispute again, but it sounds like it won't fix the problem that is causing it to end up on your report. Again, if you're positive that you've never been to that medical facility, and the collection agency says it's yours, you may need to go the identity theft route instead.

That makes a lot of sense. Thank you very much! It definitely is not my bill. When calling, I don't want to give them my social if they don't have it. How do I find out whether or not they have it?

That's understandable...start with the medical facility. Call them and find out if they have anything under your social security number. Explain to them what is going on and see if they will send you something in writing that states you have no accounts with them. Next, call the collection agency and give them the account number and advise them you have written documentation that you have never been to that facility. Maybe the collection agency can write a letter confirming the account is not yours based on your name, address and date of birth instead. Honestly, I've never dealt with anything like this so it may be best to start with the medical facility and then call the CRA's and ask them what they want as evidence to go along with the letter from the medical facility.

Got it
At least now I have a better plan of attacking this thing. Thank you so very much!
Good luck and keep us updated!
Going the route of online dispute to all three CRAs, TransUnion and Equifax have removed this collection. It remains on Experian. I don't know why/how this happened when the other two removed, but looks like I have a little more work to do to have it removed from Experian.
