Should I try to remove charge offs?

I'm almost done paying off the debt that owe. Most of the collections have been PFD's. But I have close to 10 charge offs on the my credit report. Some of these accounts were opened 10 years ago so I know that benifits my age of accounts. But I want to remove all negatives from my reports.
Would trying to get some goodwills make my credit score go down?

Re: Should I try to remove charge offs?

You would request only that the creditor delete the reporting of that derog (i.e., the charge-off), and not the entire account.

However, they could decide to simply delete the entire account, thus eliminating any future issues of having to deal with any communications from you regarding their reporting.

You thus take the chance when requesting deletion of only derogs on a closed account that they will choose to clean house and delete the entire account.

I would not do so if you dont plan to app for new credit or otherwise need your score prior to the normal credit report exclusion date of the charge-off (i.e., no later than 7 years plus 180 days from the DOFD on the OC account).

Re: Should I try to remove charge offs?

I figured that. I'm just trying to clean up as much as possible so when I look for my new apartment some time next year there wont be any issues. 11 derogatory accounts is not a good look.

Re: Should I try to remove charge offs?

if as i understand its been 10 years since derog why aren't they removed from Credit reports yet?

it should automatically fall of after 7 yrs + 180 days from DOFD.

Never mind; misspoke/misread.

i have acct went into chargeoff in its 1st year in 2011. I opened this account in 1991.

Re: Should I try to remove charge offs?

It might still be potentially benefical to pursue deletion of reported derogs, even if they are about to become excluded from your credit report.

The CRAs are prohibiited from including derogs in credit reports they issue after expiration of the credit report exclusion date.

That is not the same as deletion of the information from your credit file.

Under very limited and rare circunstances, parties can still obtain a full-file credit report that would include any and all derogs of record in your file, regardless of their normal credit report exclusion.  See FCRA 605(b) for the exemptions, of which the most notable would be any inquiry by a credtior with whom you are seeking $150K or more of credit.

If you obtain a good-will deletion by the creditor, the information is deleted from your file, and will thereafter not be included in any reports provided to anyone by the CRA.
