Spectrum Collection / Won't Delete After Promise to do PFD

HELP!  I recently moved and about 3 months later I see a collection pop up from Sunrise Credit Services for a Spectrum bill. It must have been my final bill that slipped through the cracks but I never got any notifications about it.  I called the CA to offer a pay for delete and they said they can't do that, but Spectrum can and that I should call them directly.  I call Spectrum and confim that they will do a pay for delete. I was very specific with the representative and she confirmed that once I pay it, withiin 30 days it will be deleted from credit.  She also confirmed that the conversation was recorded.  I paid it and a few weeks later, to my frustration, it was marked paid in full by Sunrise (not deleted). I called Spectrum back and they are now telling me that there is nothing they can do and they don't delete.  What can I now do to get this removed from credit? Super frustrating!

Some times you can dispute it and if they do not respond with in 30 days it will be automatically deleted.

Would you just do a "not mine" dispute or something else and which type of letter / format would you use for something like this? It's so frustrating because Spectrum has a recording of what their rep told me and now they are just saying "sorry she must have give you the wrong information."

You should be able to do the dispute online. Look at what options available when you put a dispute. Some times disputing can work. Most of the time for paid collections they might not respond and the item will be removed if they do not answer in 30 days. It is a long shot but one of the remaining options for you to get it out of the report.

You cant turn your back on any utilities when you move. There's always something lagging. Go to a store and explain in person what transpired and see what they can do. Face to face is better than phone calls.

Re: Spectrum Collection / Won't Delete After Promise to do PFD

first off, paying to Zero is still better than having it outstanding - so that was a good Step 1

second - a lot of times the lender takes 2 months to report it deleted - the first update is to say Paid in Full - the following month they delete it

 - so you still have a chance it will be removed (i am hoping for this)

follow the advice of the others in this thread if it doesnt get deleted after 60 days

Re: Spectrum Collection / Won't Delete After Promise to do PFD

Hi all - just an update... I sent a dispute letter saying the collection account is not mine and it was DELETED. BOOM!

The very weird thing is that on experian.com my credit score went down after the deletion. I'm hoping it's a brief anomoly and that it goes back up in a few days.

Thanks for all of your help!

Did you get the dispute investigation result letter yet? Some items that are disputed are removed until the investigation is over. So it may pop back up again and as updated.

Shoot, no, I got a notice that the result was that it was removed so I figured that was it.  Hopefully it doesn't pop back up.

Re: Spectrum Collection / Won't Delete After Promise to do PFD

When a CA is collecting on befalf of a company you need to have the OC recall the debt before paying. The CA has nothing to do with the deal you have with Spectrum. They're simply reporting that the file is closed. Like stated above, the CA can reinsert at any time within the 7.5 years by verifying it's legitimate.

On that note, as a reminder, talk of disputing legitimate debts is not allowed here.
