Started From the Bottom: My Journey from the 400 Club/Foreclosure

Wanted to start a rebuild journal to keep track of my progress and share my journey with fellow rebuilders. Any advice/constructive criticism/ input is welcome Smiley Happy

Back story: Began my first rebuild back in 2011 when I essentially had zero credit. My parents were "cash only" people and I never learned the importance of credit or how to responsibly use it. I paid cash for used beaters and everything else I needed but in 2011 I began to pay attention to my credit in the hopes of buying a house. By 2012 I bought a house, got an auto loan through Chase and had several decent limit store cards.
A series of unfortunate life events transpired in mid 2014 that caused me to begin to default on the CC payments for the store cards so I could continue to pay my mortgage and car note. One by one I began to obtain CO's in early 2015; my home foreclosed in Oct 2015. By early 2016 most of the CO's became CA's.
In August 2016, in an attempt to begin to repair my credit, I checked my scores: they were all in the 400's. The only positive TL on my reports was my auto loan with Chase and even it was dirty with 2 30d late in 2014 and 2 30d late in 2015. Other than that I had 3 CO, the foreclosure and 5 CA's.
In Jan 2017 my scores were EX 574 TU 573 EQ 561.
I PIF the 3 CO's on my reports in Feb; got a PFD from Midland in Feb and PIF a CA with PRA.
In March my scores were in the mid 500's on all 3 CRA's. I opened a secured Open Sky with a tiny little $350CL lol and opened a 3k tuition loan thru Comenity which reports as revolving (which kind of sucks because the moment it started reporting it reported at 100% util. Grrrr.). I also disputed several innacurate things on my reports in April.
In May a CA with PRA was removed from all 3 CR's (the OC CO remains on my report though); and 1 CA and a paid CO were removed from my TU file.
Currently scores are: EX 594 TU 604 EQ 609. I just opened a CapOne QS1 this week with a tiny little $300CL but at this point I'm just thrilled to have been approved for anything.

Remaining baddies: 2 CA's with PRA; 1 CA with a company called TekCollect that I have no idea where it came from, but I've disputed it twice and it remains; 3 CO all showing zero balances (TU only has 2 CO); the 4 30d lates from 2014 and 2015 on my auto loan.

Positives: Comenity tuition loan (bal $2,400 on 3k CL); Open Sky ($19 on $350CL); auto loan (3k bal. No lates since 2015); CapOne QS1 (Just opened. Not on CR yet).

My ultimate goal is be able to get an auto loan at a decent rate as my family has outgrown my tiny little car.
I know that with all my baddies (they won't fall off until 2021) my score won't get above 700 but I'm focused on rebuilding to get scores as high as they can get with all the baddies remaining and just wanted a place to keep track of my progress Smiley Happy

Re: Started From the Bottom: My Journey from the 400 Club/Foreclosure

Great start with Capone... I have went from very low 500s to mid to up 600s in just 3 months or so. Scores have fluctuated because of hits or over limit mess ups with Secure Cards with $300 CLs. Over past 2-3 weeks have been approved for CapOne QS1 $300 CL, Penfed $9K, Discover IT $1200, Navy Fed $2600, USAA $2500, and Figerhut $700. I have a few 30 Day Lates(1 this year, 3 last yr) on a santander auto loan. Had some med bills removed. But just been working on my report myself little by little. Had 2 foreclosures 8-10 yrs ago so stopped thinking about credit and was one of the fools that was happy not to have a credit card..HAHA but definitely had the wrong thinking as far as that goes. Anyway CONGRATS on your win with the CapOne. Keep working on it man and dont over do it as far stressing over your score. Just read the forum here and keep gathering information and putting things into action to form good habits!

I know the feeling when you mentioned about being approved for anything Smiley LOL
