This...on Christmas! Seriously?

So I finally got rid of all my derogs after YEARS of having them and struggling then today, Christmas Day, I get an EX alert that says a new collection account was added. I laugh because I haven't done anything that would get me sent to collections.

I look and it's for $59 for T-Mobile from Sunrise Credit Services.

The story:

2 Years ago (more like 19 months but yeah) I call T-Mobile and ask them to cancel my service, BEFORE the next month begins so that way I'm paid in full. Same day I go to Sprint and port my # to them.

I did not use any services for the next month from T-Mobile, no calls, texts, emails nothing using their service and I made sure to call to cancel before the next month's billing cycle began. The people at Sprint also said as soon as you port your number your service is cancelled with the company because they can't bill a # that's not theirs.

I tried calling T-Mobile for DV and they say it's too old it's been sent to collections WTH. Can someone help please? I did everything right and don't believe they have any legal basis for A) Billing Me and B) Sending anything to collections.

Re: This...on Christmas! Seriously?

Try contacting T-Mobiles Executive Response office, that is who reached out to me when I complained about a customer service experience I had.  I was looking for recores that were over 5+ years old.  Rep was able to send me months (alsmost 2yrs worth) of statements so that I had proof of DoFD.

Re: This...on Christmas! Seriously?

I filed a Federal complaint with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau against the collection agency for attempting to collect a debt which is not owed.

When I called T-Mobile initially to cancel it I spoke to someone who sounded as if they were outsourced from India Smiley Sad I think they wanted to transfer me to a recon line, but I told them please cancel the account and have a Good Day then hung up because I was already at Sprint waiting to port.

Re: This...on Christmas! Seriously?

I had a similar experience with T-mobile.   I disputed the collections account and it was removed because they couldn't verify anything.   Then about 6 weeks later I received a letter from T-mobile saying that since they could not verify the identity of the account holder they would cease all collections activity on thier account.   YMMV as I belive it was a different CA who I had.

Re: This...on Christmas! Seriously?

After filing the Federal Conplaint I made a dispute with EX (hasn't shown up for the other 2 bureaus yet or at all).

Just now got an email from EX:

Credit Items
SUNRISE CREDIT SERVICE
Account Number: XXXXXXXX Outcome: Deleted - This item was removed from your credit report. Please review your report for the details.

Why would they accept it if they're just going to give up?

Re: This...on Christmas! Seriously?

Interesting. Did all of this happen in the span of just 2 days?

Does it look like CFPB complaint was not really key then since you just started it and it's unlikely to have had yet any effect?

Re: This...on Christmas! Seriously?

IMHO I think the CFPB complaint helped.

It shows they have set up an online portal to receive CFPB complaints rather than by mail. So I think they received that and were preparing a response then also received the dispute and decided it was not worth $5 (or whatever their profit margin would be from collecting on this account).
