Trident Asset ... Help with collection issue. No idea what is going on!

My very first post!

I went through a bad marriage where my credit suffered and then a bad divorce about 5 1/2 years ago. Since then I've been working my butt off to fix my credit reports. This year I finally got my scores from the mid-500's into the 700's. Suddenly, last month a collection agency called Trident Asset pops up on my report for a $75 debt supposedly created in December of 2010. My score went from "good" to "fair" and dropped 50-70 points. Nonsense. I've been paying my bills like clockwork. I've never heard of the company (until researching online and seeing many consumer complaints) and they never tried to contact me in any way. I have zero idea what they think the original debt is from. I'd have no problem paying a $75 bill if I had one but of course I'm not just going to send money to any company that says I owe it and I have serious doubts this is mine.

I did send a dispute letter to the credit agencies and I got a letter today saying the debt is verified but no other real information. I plan to send a DV CMRRR to Trident next week but I am wondering if anyone else has advice or insight for me.

Any help is appreciated! I'm getting married in less than two weeks and we hope to buy a house in the next year or two so of course I want to nip these issues in the bud.

i have them on my credit report too, no idea where or what it was for...i plan on sending a DV letter to them as well...wish i had an email address to send it to, or a fax # but i do not...sigh...

These jokers were on my credit report for a while and I had no clue who they were.  My first reaction was to send a PFD because I had been paying off so much debt then I got angry because I figured out it wasn't mine.  So I did a dispute with all 3CBs but to no avail.  Did it a second time this time including a little more background info and poof pow bedazzle...it was gone.  Keep trying going thru the CA was an absolute waste but a necessary one so that you can say you did it and have proof of it.

I had this company pop up on my credit report out of the blue as well. I called them and told them that I disputed it. She was a very angry lady! Im not one to put up with someone else's b.s. so I was an ass back...I know, not very smart. I then sent a dv letter and sent a complaint thru the BBB. it was deleted within a week or two. Ill send u an address if u want it.

I am in the process of buying a home and a collection from Trident showed up at the top of the listing from 7/11 I believe for over $200.  I don't know what this is for.  I am certian I don't owe any one money.  Anything I have purchased I am certian I paid for it.

After reading these posts I am fearful who I should contact first.  Who did you contact and how?

I have not personally checked my credit report yet.  I need to know the best way to get this off.  I have not had anything to do with columbia house for years like others have stated over 25 years.

This company usually handles (Columbia House) DVD purchases online or advertised mail (Example) 5 dvd's for a penny

Hi,this is my first post and so glad I found this forum.  After receiving an alert that my credit report had a key change, I found out I have this debt from a collection agency
Trident stating I owe $88.00, like everyone here we all know  how hard we are working to rebuild and keep our credit in good standing. I was well above the medium risk level until now.  This dropped my score over 55 points!!  I put a fraud on my account with the CA, I called Trident, the women was very nasty and told me to send a letter which I did, and I also put a complaint in with the BBB.  Now I guess it is just a waiting game. 

I hope you have had some kind of resolution.
