Hi everyone. I'm new to the forums, and although I've found them very helpful, I'm in need of some assistance.
1st - I want to pull up my credit so my husband and I can purchase a house. My present scores are 548 EXP, 606 EQ,623 TU. I'm thinking about opening a secured credit card in the hopes of pulling that up a few points. I'm a little confused - will they pull my credit for a secured card, even though I'm the one fronting the money? Would a secured card help enough, or do I need an unsecured one?
2nd - I've got some medical debts to take care of. One I'm sure is verified, so I'm going to try a PTD, but I noticed when I checked my credit report that I have a 4 other medical bills that went to collection. 3 I can afford to PIF, so I'd like to request a PTD, but 1 I can't pay in full all at once. They haven't sent me anything recently for any of these. The bills are marked that they went to collections nearly 3 years ago. My question there is, since they are all from one company, if I request a PTD for some, do you think they are going to come after me for the larger one? Should I risk it to get the ones I can pay for off my report?
Welcome!
1st - FICO doesn't distinguish or care if you get a secured card. Lenders don't either, from personal experience. Also make sure you are pulling a FICO score. Many, many sites out there sell scores but virtually none are FICO scores.
2nd - I strongly recommend you have 100% saved up before offering a PFD (you can always offer less in that PFD). You wouldn't want them to say "no" and sue for 100%. Even if SOL expired, one missed payment can void any payment arrangement and could likely reset your SOL.
A Secured Credit Card From SDFCU does not pull Credit Reports and Will help your score. It will always remain Secured.

Add Open Sky Visa to that list as well and is available to everyone.
