After a work injury I cancelled my comcast account and also had to move. My wife and I worked out an agreement with Comcast to pay $25 every two weeks until paid in full if comcast didn't "ding" My wifes credit with a collection or any negative report to the CRAs.
We were faithfully making our payments over the phone on the biweekly basis and to our dismay while paying Comcast over the phone at around the 5th payment they told us the debt had been reported as a collection to the CRAs!!!
We were very unhappy, the person on the other end of the phone then offered us a PFD. We agreed to pay the full amount if they removed the Collection from the three CRAs. They assured us that if we paid they would remove the "ding" from our credit. We paid them the ~$200 of course. This was 4-6 months ago...
We recently ran my wifes credit and the collection is still there!!!
I've already fired off a letter to one CRA, I am wondering if it's worth calling comcast or should I just send them a letter? Needless to say I am furious at this point, they directly lied to me TWO times.
If you have their agreements in writing, you have firm grounds to dispute their condinued posting. If you dont have anything in writing, and they refuse to remove the postings from your CR, then it is time to get a lawyer, and fight it as an oral contract. Harder to do.
Always get any such agreements in writing.
We didn't get anything in writing which I know was stupid on our part. However with the other factors looming over our lives our credit score at the time wasn't our primary concern. I am pretty upset about this, doing some checking around this seems to be fairly common with Comcast. While I don't want to pay a lawyer I will surely look into if I don't get anywhere...
Is it worth calling? Or just do it all in writing?
Yeah, I am also a bit confused. I followed the thread up to the point of the "collection."
Did Comcast refer the account to a third pary CA, or did they sell it? Did a CA post to your CR?
Those are starting points for any advice...
If Comcast still owns the debt, you should talk to them. But if they sold it to a CA. then you are wasting your time with Comcast.

Sorry for the confusion... The orignal agreement to pay $25 a week was with comcast we were paying that on time biweekly with the understanding they wouldn't take any action that would put negs on our credit. Then apparently it was turned over to a collection agency despite the fact that we had kept our end of the deal and paid the debt down by 50% already... In my wifes credit report under collections where the agencies name goes I see what looks like a reference number. I'm doing some research right now to figure out what it actually means lol.
I fired off an E-mail to the "comcast cares" last night and I got a reply saying they would call me monday... Of course they could just be telling me to go pound sand or give me the CA information. I've goten conflicting information on this issue by reading the forums. Some seem to have had CAs removing collections from the CRAs by contacting comcast, others like the one above say comcast is a waste of time...

Have you ever heard from this CA?
You made all payments to the OC, correct?
If you have not ever heard from CA and made no payments to them, I would DV them.
Yes, I heard from them. The debt was turned over to them for what ever reaso, even though my understanding was they wouldn't since we were paying the payments... Then we agreed to a pay for deletion but not in writing (I know
much stress during this time) we paid they didn't delete.
The credit report shows no lates on the collection don't know if that helps.
