Hello all,
For over a year now, I have been battling the VA on getting an overpayment of GI Bill benefits removed from my credit report that ended up going into collections even though it was deducted from my monthly benefits. I have tried talking to multiple CSRs with no success and told that "it was legitimate and therefore could not be removed" even though no notice was sent in the mail about overpayment, and it was deducted from my normal monthly benefits. I am in the process of trying to buy a house and would like this negative item removed from the credit report.
Has anyone had any success with the VA on getting these things removed from credit reports when CSRs are unwilling to help or provide any additional info or know who to direct GW letters too?
Thanks!
I should also note, the reason for starting this battle up again is that the VA home loan credit rating requirement through Veteran's United is going up to 660 from 630 and I would like to see if getting this VA overpayment thing removed would get me over the 660 mark so that I can continue with the home buying as opposed to having to put it on hold for who knows how long.
Welcome @Anonymous
From my research. You can file a complaint with the CFPB. They have a Military Dept within. Send proof that you paid and the CA is still on your reports and see what they can do. In the meantime if someone else post a similar situation. Try this for a read. Good Luck!

Wow great link there of information! Looking at that link it looks like I can apply to have my Student Debt completely forgiven! Also didnt know that there was a max percentage rating I could have been charged on some of my loans before I got retired!

Did you ever get this situation figured out? I have a similar issue that happened in 2017 and I want it off my reports. I wasn't ever sent a letter or anything and by the time I found out it was too late..
