@Anonymous wrote:ok guardian the thing is I moved from Cali in 11/04 i had the car put up to keep ( it was 91 caprice all fixed up on 22' rims) but when I was in VA things got tough and weren't going like I planned so I had a friend sell the car for me to another guy I knew this was in 2/05.in 8/08 I saw the CA pop up on my credit report I disputed the issue but it was validated. I recently had a Kroll credit check because i'm in the process of closing on a house and on the report it said that the debt was validated by my name and social which made me call the CA to find out what the hell was going on they let me know about the car had been towed and never picked up, and that it was still registered to me and they mailed out things to my old address but received no responce. the dude i sold it to is now doing 15-life so im not getting anywhere there so when she offered to delete this for $1000 I considered paying because I need my score to stay good for the house.
I talked to a cousin that worked as a collection agent for a long time who said if they offered$100 they will go lower but it will not be deleted, he said they will deleted the first month but it will show back up is this true?
Ok thanks for the update. Now another question for you, when your friend sold this car for you, did he fill out the title transfer? If so you have a portion of that (the white perforation part) or a copy of the filled out form or they never even did this? If not, then the car is officially yours, they are right that since they sent it to the address on the registration, they have fulfilled their end and you might as well pay the 1k if they agreed to clear it up for your own sake and getting a house. Now, although usually when they delete, its done, "some" will play dirty and have it show up again and that's when you need to have this arrangement in writing, have them send you a letter or fax you something on letterhead so you can make sure if it pops up, you can get it removed through the CRAs. Your friend is pretty much right that even though you can probably get them lower, it also lowers you chance of them being willing to delete it, so its really up to you to find that sweet spot between getting it lowered AND making sure its still going to be deleted. I cannot emphasize enough that you need to get this in writing.

Yeah that title and paper work is gone bro i did not think I would need it because it was so long ago. I think I will go ahead and pay this now my question is would this have a immediate impact on my credit score and will it be good or bad impact because i seriously cant afford to lose 1 single point! I mean its on my report now but i am wondering will paying them hurt me
Well then your option is pretty much to pay it, I would suggest you DV just for good measure before you pay and then get it in writing that paying would include removing it as well and then go ahead and PFD. Once it is removed, which can take up to 90 days although not that long usually, it will be eliminated as a baddie which will result in a bump in your score, assuming nothing else is killing you too.

Cool doing a DV is what I was thinking to.and I hope we are talkin a Bump up and not down. so when I ask for the PFD should this be in writing or over the phone.
GENERALLY, not always, the bump after a baddie is removed is upward, although if it results in a bucket change, it MIGHT go the other way but it recovers faster. No way to know bud, sorry.
Is a CA reporting this in the collection section of your report?
Is this your only collection?
Always get the PFD in writing!!!!!
