"If they removed it from the collection agency it should fall off your credit report if it was the collection agency that reported it. Now that the collection agency no longer has your account they can't report it."
I don't believe this to be correct. The debt should be recalled first, otherwise the CA will just update to paid. However, I had a debt that I paid direct to the OC before I knew how to do this. I disputed it with TU and it was removed.
Any gurus want to chime in here? Then there is the HIPPA process. Removal was swift and painless.

To FISHBJC- Thanks for the reply.
I was told by two individual CSR's that I no longer had a collection on their records.
1st: CSR actually removed the account from collections and billed my insurance
2nd: CSR confirmed that I had no account in collections.
To SHOGUN- thanks for the reply. Should my DV be sent CERTIFIED ?
I probably would send it CMRRR. Another option to throw out there, you can get a letter from the medical provider that there is no bill, take that and send a 623 direct dispute "with proof" to the CA. They are required to respond to it. But I'd just start with a simple DV.

If it's pulled from collections but not paid they can't mark it paid. The collection agency can't keep reporting an account they no longer have any rights to since the OC pulled it back. I was going off if the OC pulled it out of collections not that the OP just paid it the OC.
I had a similar situation last year. After going in circles with th CA, I finally reported both the CA and the Dr Office to the Better Business Bureau.
Not only did that prompt action (Dr Office contacted CA and made them remove collection from report), but the dr office sent me an apology and a $100 check for my troubles.
As my dad always says - squeaky wheel gets the oil.
