What to do if a collector refuses to remove something on your credit report?

Hello all, new here and just begun rebuilding my credit, I started with about 8k in debt, i'm down to 6500 at this moment. Anywho, I paid off an old verizon acct but the collection agency Debt Recovery Solutions said they don't remove accounts, they simple put them at a 0 balance. So my question is what do you do about this? Should I contact Verizon, dispute with equifax and transunion? Or do I simply let it be and hope my score goes up?

The debt was yours, you created it. You paid them, they are reporting correctly a zero balance. On what grounds are you going to dispute it?

The only 2 options you have is 1.) Start a goodwill campaign and hopefully they will remove it. 2.) Wait until in falls off when the 7.5 years is up.

Now, none of us want to wait that long. So you should be respectfully consistant with your GW requests.

Welcome to the forums!

Good luck with that. Verizon is known for totally rejecting our goodwill requests, but it's worth a try. Let us know how it turns out!

Thanks for the replies, I just wasn't sure if there was anything I could do. The other two companies i've paid off so far agreed to remove both.
